How to become a financial analyst?

I am a high school student who is interested in becoming a financial analyst. I formed a plan on how to achieve that goal. My question is: Is this an effective plan? Also, should I just go straight to work after my bachelors degree or go straight to a masters degree? Would an MBA be better than a MS in Finance?

Anyways, here is my current plan:

Bachelors in Arts - Economics with a minor in math

Then get a Masters in Science - Finance

Then get a Chartered Financial Analyst Certification after some work experience. [Apparently work experience is required before taking the certification.] Do you study for it while working?

Thanks.

Your plan sounds fine. You should be able to gain working experience while pursuing your MS. The advanced degrees and certifications are NOT overrated, as others have indicated, if you are seeking a position with one of the major financial institutions. Good Luck

Most major companies will not hire an analyst who does not have 2 years of experience AND either a CPA or MBA. CFA certification is HIGHLY overrated. Your experience alone carries more value.
