Would you let your 17 year old daughter go to a concert?

I want to go to Philly on July 4th for the parade, concert and fireworks with two of my best friends. My parents refuse to let me go because they seem to think I am 7 years old. My one friend lives in Philly and the other used too, so they know the area. I am responsible and my mom knows this so I don't understand why she won't trust me. I won't go looking for trouble and I have a cell phone in case I get lost or something goes wrong. I would understand them not wanting to go if I was 15 but I am going to turn 18 soon and then I'm going to college next year. Would you let your daughter go and do you have any advice on how I can convince my parents to let me go.

Update:

My parents let my little sister go with my neighbors to Washington D.C. for a week with only a 5 hour notice when she was 9.

Possibly. It would depend on the gender of the friends, if I trusted them, and whether I wanted to spend my fourth in Philly. Probably I'd end up accompanying my child.

I would in our area, I'm not sure how far Philly is from you. If you're talking crossing state lines or going overnight, I probably wouldn't without an adult present. Yes, it's "only" a year before she'd be legal but that year can be important.

I would. M,aybe hey re worried about the high murder rate. As a person who was born and raised in philly i will tell u this. If you keep your head up be alert and dont star drawling (philly slang for starting problems) you will be fine.

Im a mother of 11 and I faced this with my daugter.I let her go because she was old enough and I trust her.Your parents are just over protective and I understand that also.Go to them and explain every detail of your trip like where you will be staying and let them connect to the parents of your freind whom you will be staying with etc.If you give them more information and can back it up with reasurance im sure they will be more at ease.Yes your getting older and will very soon be on your own but until your out their house your their responabilty so bear with them and if you cant go accept it and wait til nxt yr.Im sorry but they are your parents and support You so

    I probably would. But then I don't have a 17 year old.

It's not that they don't trust you. They're scared that some wack job would do something to you.

i would let mine go, but i also would not tell other parents what to do. i'm sure it's not about your being responsible or not; it's more likely they are just worried about you.
