Is it true that there are no atheists in foxholes?

Maybe there are only atheists in foxholes. If the faithful truly and fully believe in a protective deity, why would they dive into a foxhole to protect themseleves from the bullets whizzing by? A part of their brain knows damn well that if they do not protect themselves, the bullets will hardly discriminate between those who claim faith and those who reject it.

The atheists are out doing what they are paid to do - fight!

The foxholes are full of Christians praying for their invisible friend to save them!.

It's a tricky one because according to free will God let's people do whatever so in that sense a religious person can't just depend on God to save them from everything on earth. But then apparently prayer can make God directly have an effect on the world. so I don't think there is a correct answer to this.

There are atheists in foxholes but really this doesn't suggest superior intellect. It means they should have studied harder to avoid being in infantry where people actually try to shoot you in person.

  • Maybe, after all they aren't the war mongering type who fight over who has the best sky daddy.

"A man rejects God neither because of intellectual demands nor because of the scarcity of evidence. A man rejects God because of a moral resistance that refuses to admit his need for God."

Both physically and metaphorically the saying is incorrect.

  • It was in war that I became atheist.
