It's not just a matter of keeping the cat outside. What are you going to do when the cat gets hurt or ill and needs a vet? Do you have the money to pay for vet visits? Do you have the money to pay for kitten shots? Do you have the money to pay for food and anything else the cat may need it's whole life? Things can happen to a cat that lives outside, or even goes outside by itself and you'd have to be ready to help it, rescue it, pay for the vet bills. Plus you can't keep a kitten outside or it will go feral since kittens need to be socialized to people. If your parents don't want a kitten/cat, all you can do is keep nagging them, prove to them that you are responsible enough in everything else you do (chores, homework, school, etc.) so they will feel you are responsible enough to care for a cat. And a cat box that is kept clean doesn't have to smell. There are even cat boxes that have a small opening for the cat to go through but the rest of the box is totally enclosed so there'd be less of a smell (and if you keep that box clean all the time, there'd be no smell). You and your parents have got to agree on getting a cat before you get one because ultimately they are the ones who will be paying for the cat's needs and ultimately responsible for the cat (since you are still a minor). Look around your home to see where you could put a cat box (and look at the enclosed cat boxes on the Petco website to get the measurements, then measure any space you think the box might be able to go in) so it wouldn't be in the way and basically out of sight--cat has to have easy access to it so it can't be somewhere there's a door that will need opening. If you can find a likely place to put an enclosed cat box, then show them the picture of the box, explain how it keeps any smells inside the box, that you will be scooping the box every day and washing it down every month, etc. Maybe they'll give in once they see you have seriously thought about this, done your research.

If you're worried about smell, get a cat, rather than a kitten, which already 'does its business' outside, that will definitely eliminate smell! I have three cats, and our house smells fine.
When choosing one talk to the owner, or people (if you're going to an animal shelter) they will help you out with getting the cat that is right for you and your parents.- Hope this helps!

We had a cat and a cat flap and the house never smelled. We do keep the windows and doors open a lot though. I think it makes a big difference if you have a litter tray or not. If you do have a litter tray you need to change it every day otherwise it *does* start to smell, and it smells really bad. I never experienced this with my cat (I'm quite funny about smells and so changed it every day before we got a cat flap, when she didn't need a litter tray) but an ex housemate used to have a cat with a litter tray which he rarely changed and it stank! But that was because he so rarely changed it.

No cat shoudl live outside. Since you've thought of keeping it outside that shows you shouldn't have one.
Nothing will stop the house from smelling like cat since you wont keep the litter box clean and since you have school you wont have time to take care of the kitten and keep its litter box clean.

They can be outdoor cats like mine! We have a porch, and we put screen on all the openings and added a door so that they any get outside. Well, they're sort of outside, but they aren't free to roam wherever. However, not all people can screen in their porch. Talk to your parents about the idea and they may consider it. A screened in porch also makes for a nice addition to the house!

Not really. While the litter box is the source of most cat odor, it's not the only one. Most cats mark their territory with urine, and it's hard to prevent it totally.
