Do all of intact female dogs "mark" or urinate to show sexual availability?
We have an intact Golden and we are having issues with her marking the house. Specifically when she goes into estrus. We took her to the vet and rules out medical issues. My husband never spayed her but I convinced him its the best idea. It's 400 dollars since she's so heavy and 5 years old. We are saving up, but in the mean time we have has to resort to barricading her at night and when we re gone because she continues to urinate on the furniture and carpet. Do ALL intact females do this? Or only some?

Entire females do mark/urinate more when in heat, they are marking their availability, but to do it in the house does not seem normal at all. They should still retain a sense of where they are allowed to go. It sounds a lot like she's regressed in her toilet training
My female was spayed at 12 months old, and she had experienced one heat and was just about to enter her 2nd. To this day, she still marks more than a dog that has not had a cycle. Same thing with our Labrador who is 12 years old and was spayed as a mature dog.
Spaying may not necessarily fix the issue, maybe consult a behaviourist as well if the problem persists after the procedure.

Actually female dogs pee more often during heat, so perhaps you should increase the amount of times and how frequent you take her out. But we had a problem with our female peeing in the house at times as well during her heat when she never had before.
