How to get an emotional support dog?
Okay I'm going to post this again since no one read the details I added.
First off, I am not trying to commit fraud.
Next, I am diagnosed depressive bi-polar by a licensed professional.
I just moved here and have a lease so I can't just up and move. I want to get a pitbull. The woman who works for my landlord told me I can have one although they have breed restrictions here as long as I have a signed note from my doc saying its an emotional support dog. IT DOES NOT MAYTER WHAT THE BREED IS, THEY RESPECT THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES AND THEY RESPECT THAT THEIR FAVORITE KIND OF DOG IS WHAT KEEPS THEM OUT OF THEIR DEPRESSION. All I'm asking is how to go about getting a note because I live in a completely different state than where my old doc is so don't have one yet concidering treatment is very expensive when you don't have insurance. Which I don't.
I want to be able to have the puppy and was just wondering if there were alternative ways to get the note.
I've owned pitbulls before. I grew up with pitbulls. My sister has a pitbull. I know more than I stated obviously I'm not going to just get a dog that's cute. That's just a plus. I want one because I think they're great dogs. I did not once say I want the pitbull breed. I want a pitbull "type" dog. I do have a 3 year old and I don't care how you feel about me having her around one. I was around them my whole life. They are amazing animals and I've never in my life dealt with an aggressive one. I believe it does depend on how they are brought up. Please do not post anything more. the reason I'm ignoring you is because I already know what you are telling me. Please stop posting ur "answers" or should I say opinions since that is what you are doing. I do not care what you have to say I asked a simple question and you're just being an a hole. Thanks bye.

Yes, you can get a letter from your doctor saying you can have an emotional support animal
however, you are still held to breed limitations, size limitations, insurance requirements, etc...
the difference in being allowed an emotional support animal is that you are given that allowance even if the apartment policy is no pets --- this is how the FHA laws read
you need to understand what the laws can grant you & what those limitations are
you have no choice in obtaining a letter from your doctor... there are no alternatives to getting the letter from the doctor
there are case law examples... and even after you get the letter from your doctor... if they are not satisfied with that letter, they can demand you be seen by the doctor of their of their choice & if that doctor agrees that you need an ESA, you can then get one
you can not get one & then try to get it approved.. you must get it approved before you try to obtain the dog
there is a difference in reasonable accommodation (you are allowed to have an ESA)
and an unreasonable accommodation (you are attempting to get approval for a dog that is breed-banned in the area or is unacceptable to their insurance carrier)
the rules are VERY different for ESA than for SD (where there are no breed limitations) & you won't be eligible for SD unless you can also prove that dog is trained to be an SD (housing does not cover SDiT.. Service Dogs in Training... and neither does ADA)... a puppy is not an SD, it might be an SDiT

You can't get an ESD without a doctor's recommendation plain and simple, so you will either come up with the money for a new doctor and/or get insurance, that is the long and short of it. You are aware that an ESD is nothing more than a well behaved and trained dog that is only allowed where other pets are allowed or not allowed. No special privileges, like entering food related establishments etc.

You can get approved for an emotional support dog if you can demonstrate to the doctor that you have anxiety, depression, insomnia or stress.
You can qualify online at sites like http://thedogtor.net/ if you need fast approval.
Best of luck!

You asked this already
You dont need one. You are lying so you can have a dog you know you are not allowed to have beocuse you a e super special snowflake. An ESA is only a pet and since the pitt bull and pitt mutts are banned you can't have one.
Don't like it?
Move out and stop lying before it comes back and bites you in the bum like you deserve. The Ll can and will evict you if you get a pitt bull or pitt mutt becouse they will lose their insurance and they already told you that you can't have one. Now grow up.
You are trying to commit fraud and you know it. You dont need an ESA, you are just using it as an excuse to get a dog you know you can't have
No docter will give you a note for an ESA since you dont need one. Being depressed means you need meds, not a dog. Dogs only make depression worse.
SO what if you had pitts and pitt mutts before. you are still not entitled to have one and commit fraud. You will be evicted when the dog bites someone or attacks someone's dog or when the Ll loses their insurance becosue of it.
People like you make it harder and harder for grown mature adults to have a real ESA that doenst break the breed restrictions or weight limits becouse you are stomping your feet and acting like a child becosue you think the Ll shoudl allow you to have a dog you can't have

I *did* read your additional details, so again, you are having problems with the truth, just as you did in your last question.
Again, there is no such breed as "pitbull".
To get a note, you set up with a new physician who is willing to write a note for you.
Sorry, but again, you are not ready for any of the pit bull breeds. You subscribe to the "it's not the breed' fairy tale garbage, you don't know the breed names, and don't seem to learn easily. You need to sit down and learn more about your "favorite kind of dog" before running out and getting one.
You are only pulling the ESA card because you want this dog. Rather than buying a house so that you could get a dog, you knowingly entered into a lease in a no-pets apartment or an apartment that bans pit bull type dogs (I don't know which).
The landlord's representative is incorrect. If the landlord's insurance is pulled because you own a dog breed that they ban, they can make you move or get rid of the dog. NO responsible rescue or breeder is going to put a dog into a situation like this.
For bi-polar sufferers, dogs, especially high energy dogs like this, are not always the answer. How's it going to work when the dog is bouncing off the walls and you can't deal with it? Is that going to send you into depression? You can't afford medical care for you - how are you going to afford a $2000 vet bill? How are you going to afford a properly bred AmStaff or APBT at $1500? What happens when the dog gets sick and you can't afford it - depression trigger? How's it going to work when you are in a depression so you can't get out, the dog starts barking at you, and you get a notice that the dog is a nuisance so you have to get rid of the dog or move?
I gave you a number of links in your past question. It's time for you to click on them and read up.
If you want to feel better with dogs, volunteer at a no-kill shelter or rescue and go walk dogs every morning. Don't manipulate the system to get a dog that you aren't ready for.
Add: Wow, ok, so because you didn't hear what you wanted, you deleted your previous question? That's an insult to the people who actually took the time to answer you.
Here are the links I gave you.

AND you have a 3 year old child??

A dog is not automatically a support dog just because you have a prescription from your Doc.
If you take your medication that your Doc prescribes for you, you don't need a support animal.
You are not the first to try & buck the system. I think you are barking up the wrong tree.
It just don't work the way your are thinking it does. It is a poor excuse & a bad way to work the system.
I don't think you would qualify for one. I think you are just trying to buck the system.
Take your meds & you will be fine.

I for one don't really like pitbulls, but to each their own.
If your old doc really diagnosed you with this, then he should have no problem if you call him and tell him you want a door for emotional support because it makes you feel better. If he thinks this makes sense, and sees possible good coming out of this I am sure he will have no problem faxing you or e-mailing you a form that says that.
They're not too hard to get and its cool because airlines let you fly the dog for free too. But really, only you know if you are lying so please don't abuse this privilege because then this is how things are revoked and people who really need them will be the ones who suffer.
If that doens't work, you can go to a new doc and show him what you have been diagnosed with and your situation, and he might prescribe you the animal.

Just go to an animal shelter and pick out some sweet mixed breed dog. One who is so happy to see you his entire body wags.

Your old doctor can still fax you or mail you a note if they think an ESA would be suitable for you.
Or find another mental health professional in your area and explain it to them. If they determine an ESA would be fit for you, they will write the 'prescription'.
