Bunion making foot go numb...?

Question

I have a pretty goot sized bunion on my right foot (enough that the podiatrist told me within 4 years surgery will be required). Has anyone heard, or experienced numbness in their arch when driving? I've noticed that when I'm driving for a little more than 30 minutes straight my bunion starts to ache, the toe and joint start to pop constantly and then my arch starts to ache and then go numb. I took a 3 hour road trip this past weekend and had to hand over the wheel within an hour as my joints had popped repeatedly, my toes were on fire but yet the side of my arch was completely numb. Doesn't matter what type of shoe I wear...

I'm thinking it might be time for surgery....but has anyone experienced this?

Hello, I know a woman who has big bunions on both feet and it makes it hard to wear just any shoe. She has never complained about any pain with them but I do remember her saying that she had had surgery on them once.Just like any other medical condition, it affects all differently. If doc says surgery, surgery it is. The bunion,  is certainly the cause of the other problems in the foot. Just be happy it can be repaired. before making the drastic choice of bunion surgery, I recommend you do some research on "Bunion Surgery Gone Wrong".  Many podiatrists recommend a hinged bunion splint before resorting to surgery.  Bunion Splints like "Bunion Aid"  have been scientifically proven to effectively correct bunions without surgery.  They also offer arch support which is probably what you need to help your arch numbness while driving.

What happened is the nerve that runs over your bunion is compressed against the shoe which causes the big toe to go numb
