When are you supposed to add commas?

I really never paid attention.* *To be honest,* I'm* not really sure how I got through my senior year in high school.* *The only thing I really excelled in was science and,* like,* welding*---manual labor stuff.*

Anyway,** I don't* know when to add commas or where they even go.* *Can someone explain this to me?**

I took a two*-year* break after high school. *Now that I'm* in college* and **an adult looking for better opportunities, I need to at least know how to write basic English.

To find where to put a comma it's usually easier to read a sentence aloud.

A comma shows where a slight hesitation occurs in speech.

He was a man, but he was also a robot.

There is a cat in my house, and it likes hunting mice.

when you feel like there's another meaning in the sentence.
