I really never paid attention.* *To be honest,* I'm* not really sure how I got through my senior year in high school.* *The only thing I really excelled in was science and,* like,* welding*---manual labor stuff.*

Anyway,** I don't* know when to add commas or where they even go.* *Can someone explain this to me?**

I took a two*-year* break after high school. *Now that I'm* in college* and **an adult looking for better opportunities, I need to at least know how to write basic English.

*Period at the end of a complete sentence.

*Capitalize new sentence / *comma following introductory phrase / *personal pronoun 'I' is always capitalized, contraction I'm always requires an apostrophe / *period at end of sentence

*Capitalize new sentence / *the interjection 'like' is enclosed in commas / *em-dash separates further explanation from 'welding'

*Capitalize new sentence / *no such word as anywayS / *comma follows / *contraction requires apostrophe / *period at end of sentence

*Capitalize new sentence / *question mark follows question / *delete confusing 'or something'

*Single-digit numbers are written out in full / *two-year modifying 'break' is hyphenated

*Delete linking 'and' / *capitalize new sentence / *'im' is NOT a word / *delete unnecessarily repeated 'that im' / *comma following introductory clause / *period at end of sentence

To find where to put a comma it's usually easier to read a sentence aloud.

A comma shows where a slight hesitation occurs in speech.

He was a man, but he was also a robot.

There is a cat in my house, and it likes hunting mice.

when you feel like there's another meaning in the sentence.
