I have always punctuated speech like this -- "Yes," he said.

BUT my friend from the US insists the American way to do it is -- "Yes." He said.

I have searched the Internet for the answer to this, so I can send her a link to prove I'm right - or admit I don't know it all - but all I can find is punctuation my way. Before I start getting cocky, is there any truth in what she claims?

I have two oldish parrots. I've had the one for 35 years, but I'm getting older too and may have to move to a place where I cannot keep them. Is there a sanctuary where they could go and I could visit them?

Are they just 'gunners'?

Or is there something a little more interesting to call them?

After a few weeks of pain in my lower right abdomen, constipation alternated with diarrhoea, indigestion and heartburn - all of which I blamed on overindulgence over Christmas - I finally went to the doctor, only to be told that the pain is my ovary and she has found a mass there. Blood tests were quickly booked in. I realised these were some of the symptoms of cancer, but I don't have bloating and there's nothing wrong with my appetite. I asked about cancer and he said, ''We'll see. Not going there yet.''

His demeanour worried me. He usually smiles as I leave, but he didn't this time.

I know 'what will be, will be', but I am so nervous - I have anxiety problems anyway - and I can hardly do anything without thinking about maybe I have cancer and I keep reading stuff on the Net and scaring myself and thinking about my kid and so much....so much...

How can I calm myself???

What exactly is a click? I presume it's a unit of measurement.

I know this'll sound weird and gross, but if the murderer stuck a long thin knife into one ear of his victim, and thereby into the brain, would it kill him quickly and would the victim bleed much?

Obviously, it is the people who are wary or stubborn. Just wondered if it was okay to write it this way.

I woke yesterday morning at 7am, like I usually do, but felt so much that I wanted to go back to sleep that it almost hurt. So I did go back to sleep at 9 and slept until 1pm, then I had to drag myself up as I had a dentist's appointment to go to. When I got back at 3pm I fell asleep on the settee and only woke for the toilet at 7pm, then went back to sleep in bed and woke at 9am this morning. What the devil? How can I sleep that much? Am I falling ill? I have been up for an hour and a half now and I feel okay today. Did all my missing sleep catch up with me in one go?

I was offered a job conditional upon a reference from my last employer. She refused to give me a reference, despite telling me when I was employed there that I was one of the best workers she'd ever had!

The job offer was withdrawn because of the lack of reference, but they still want me to pay for the CRB (£50). With no job I have only my JSA of 71 a week and they want 50 of it! Help!

Have a job interview and they are demanding proof of address via utility bills '''sent to the house'' but I do everything online. They said I couldn't print anything off the Net either! Suggestions as to how to get around this silly problem, please.

Any idea how 'in date' a bill has to be, as I do have a bank statement from six months ago before I went 'online'?
