Allstate office lost a copy of my birth certificate- what can I do?
I needed it translated into French, and from the start the man running the office wasn't getting it done and also wasn't calling me as promised. After two months I called yet again, when he told me to go somewhere else because his translator had left. I asked for the copy to be given back to me, but he said that thet had "lost" my birth certificate. I told him bluntly that it was a vital document and I needed it returned, and he said they would look and call me back. Of course I haven't heard anything.
I have given up hope on him doing anything, though I did email the national offices and ask if they could put any pressure on him to look harder. I'm not sure what else I can do.
This was luckily a photocopy, not a certified copy. No one should be able to use the document itself. However, it still has my personal information on it, and I am not happy with the idea of it floating around somewhere.
How concerned should I be, and what can I do?
Thanks!

Contact AllStates main office.
The only personal information on the birth certificate are your parents names.

Translate it yourself. It would take about 15 minutes to look up "date of birth" and "name of father" in French. Try this: http://translate.google.com/
If you're worried about identity theft, there's really nothing you can do except yell at them and complain...which you've already done.

I can go to your local registry and get a copy of your Birth Certificate so dont get in a panic. You do the same and get another copy if you need it. I am a bit bemused as to why you need it in French.
