Are marriage and conformity related?
It seems to me that when a couple wants to get married, they want to have a sexual relationship, but they want to be well respected. By getting married and following the unwritten laws of marriage they will be percieved as doing the right thing, as well as doing what everybody else does.

Being married is also about commitment. You promise to stand by your spouse in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer, for better or worse (or some variation thereof.) You promise to care for and to take care of this person for the rest of your life. Marriage is all about saying in public, before witnesses, that you love this person in every sense of the word. Sexual relations are certainly one part of that contract, but by no means the only or most important part.
