This seems to be a very applicable quote about some sinners I know. What do you think?

“The liar's punishment is, not in the least that he is not believed, but that he cannot believe anyone else.”

Would any of you atheists know about this?

Update:

Aww, that's cute, Michelle. Have fun believing that.

Meanwhile, God is in my life every day.

Update 2:

We can meet in the middle here, Toke.

God's plan is for us to live in love. We are not doing that if we choose to sin. God simply says not to lie because there are many reasons not to lie, one of them being what you mentioned.

All I know is that their most definitely is a magic bearded man floating in the sky, granting peoples wishes, and punishing people who don't think he's real, while a mean red dude who lives underground has convinced 90% of the planets population to believe in other gods (unless your catholic then the number changes to 88%)

Meanwhile in the north pole Santa Clause is preparing for another world wide trip to deliver presents to all the good boys and girls.

Yes, it often makes me think - that - hose who are unable to accept the testimony of multitudes must be generally dishonest, leading him to believe that similarly, all those who have a strong testimony about encounters with the living God must be speaking a lie - just for effect!!

It is well known that those who have a character fault but do not know it, 'see' it in the speech and life of others - this is called 'projection'.

No, I wouldn't know about that. The atheists I know are quite honest, but I was shocked when I first started reading questions here and saw how freely the believers lied. It's getting to the point where I'm surprised to see a believer actually telling the truth about something.

I'm not even talking about their beliefs,I'm talking about the endless lies they tell about atheists, about science, about those who follow other religions and even those who are part of other denominations within their religion. They lie about political things, they lie about supposed 'persecution' of Christians, and they lie about history. I used to naively believe that Christians at least tried to be truthful. I don't believe that any more. They don't seem to have any qualms about lying at all.

Years ago an older german woman shared this with me:

______________________(phrase in german I can't remember - LOL)

But what it means is that the finger pointer is the cheater......

It has been pretty commonly observed by spouses: when your partner starts to become irrationally jealous it turns out they are because THEY are the one cheating....

    he guilty conscience thingy.....

Yes, I am very aware of the this human behaviour......and so other other cultures & religions older than the 6000 years attributed to your religion. It is one of the TRUTHS.

What are the TRUTHS? Why I am so glad you asked.....things that can be observed as fact without having to "read signs" or other wishy washy nonsense....things that humans have known since not long after Grog the caveman learnt that fire burns......

Oh....and fire burns....that another one of the TRUTHS....LOL.....

a liar does not suffer from lack of trust because your Johnny-come-lately religion labels lies a sin....but because one must give trust without breach to have trust in others.....simple action reaction stuff....

The quote says nothing about sin. But as a comment about liars, it's an interesting psychological insight.

Yeah well it's hard to believe someone who throws around a Bronze-age book of quotes and somehow uses it to explain to people that they need to be a political conservative and vote against Gay marriage because of what they think the book says and if they don't Jesus will cry or something.

Well considering that your team is the one contently shouting that you have proof for a god, and then never showing it, who rewrite history to meet their own ends, and lie about pretty much anything that could challenge your preconceived notions then I think that one of us needs to think about the implications of that quote, and it's not me.

    Nope.

But then I am not the one lying to try to get people to agree to believe in fairy tales.... so I don't feel like such an idiot for being convinced childish nonsense is actually "how the universe works'.

Ooo, I see Michelle got to you. Good for her, bad for you.

See dude, the problem here is that atheists don't disbelieve you because they think you're lying, they disbelieve you because they think you're WRONG. So your charming aphorism really has no relevance here, and that, my son, is why you fail.

The 'deluded' punishments are a lifetime wasted by serving an entity that never existed.

    Go figure.
