Have you ever had your mouth washed out with soap as punishment and would you do it to your child?

Update:

The punishment is for saying something bad.

Update 2:

Edit: I've never done it to my children but I had it done to me by my parents.

No, I wasn't punished that way and I wouldn't do it to my kid either. I read a story on the news about a child who suffered a severe allergic reaction after her parents did that to her. She had to be hospitalized. Some people don't seem to realize that soaps nowadays are nothing like they were in their grandparents' day. They are made with so many chemicals now that don't belong anywhere near a child's mouth.

I had it done to me once, it shouldn't be out of anger, but my dad gave me all my discipline. If I would've stayed with him, I'd probably be a better person than I am now. I'm not saying physical discipline is right, but when it was seen that way, just two or three generations ago, children were much more behaved, and had better lives for it. Kids nowadays are shi**y, and I'm pointing fingers at the people who made corporal punishment illegal.

No, I never did, and I wouldn't do it to my child either. It's gross, and probably not healthy, and I don't think it is more effective than other forms of punishment (like time-outs, lost privileges, or spanking as a last resort). I never had to be punished for using bad words as a kid ( I was pretty shy), but my brothers always just got a good talking-to about what the word means and why it's bad to use it, and they would stop.

Yes I have had my mouth washed out with soap, no I would never ever do that to my child.

My mother took it a step further, she put me in the bathroom and made me do it to myself, I couldn't come out until I had done it.

No I have never had my mouth washed out with soap. I would not do that to a child either because it is mean and also i've heard that it can actually hurt them, like mess up their stomach or something.

my mom used soap a lot and i made a game outta it so she would stop i told her it wasnt a punishment to me because i could then blow bubbles with my mouth and would sit they making bubbles and get the soap on my clothes and the carpet my half brother would laugh and drink the soap and so after awhile she gave up and stop it would never cross my mind to be a punishment for my own child or children

Yes and yes. It was done once to me and once to each of my kids. The soap was only in my/their mouths for a few seconds and then I/they were allowed to rinse out their mouths and brush their teeth. It was a very effective punishment.

Yes, but it was because I accidentally said it. I knew saying "bad words" was wrong but it slipped out. I wouldn't do it if I had kids because that punishment always seemed stupid to me and knowing me I'd probably be worried about poisoning my kids with the soap.

Yes I have. With soap that people have been washing their crappy hands with.

I wouldn't do it to my son. I'm not my 60 year old father. This is 2014, old man!
