Is it permissible to escape a burning building using the escalator?

I know you mustn't use the lifts (elevators) and have to use the stairs when escaping. But is it safe to use the escalator? If not, please explain why.

    Yes because if it stops you can slide down the side like the cops do.

    They should be fine unless they're on fire. The reason they say not to use elevators is because the elevator can get stuck. If fire gets inside you're done.
