2008 John deere 830 Z-trak blowing oil out of oil fill?

I just bought a 2008 John deere 830 Z-trak with 750 hours on it. I happened to start it with the oil cap off and noticed that it was spraying oil and some white smoke out of there. I know this is really bad in diesel engines but what about these?

Thanks

Sounds normal. That's what the cap is there for, to keep the oil spray that cools the valvetrain contained in the engine. The white smoke is combustion byproduct and or blowby from the pistons. Doesn't sound like you have a problem unless you notice that it's losing coolant regularly and there is no leak externally.
