indoor cat scratching problem?

My 6 month old kitten, keeps getting up on the table.

Also he claims 2 chairs as his personal scratching post.

Spaying him with water, dos not face him at all.

I've tried to use about three different brands of scented spays

from the pet-store and K- and Wal-Mart.

He just walks right over the area as if it is not sprayed at all.

I've used double back tape and he entertains himself be peeling it of.

I had cats all my live, all of them lived to be between 17 and 19 years of age.

This little guy is definitely walking to a different drummer.

Oh, I want to mention I have used citrus spray without any result.

I hope somebody out there has an answer for me, or it will be a

l o n g summer coming my way.

Thank you for any GOOD idea, as I'm in no mood for some goofball advise!

That actually may work. Also, make sure he has lots of scratching posts, especially near the chairs he likes to scratch, and put some catnip on them every day. Praise him whenever you catch him using a scratching post rather than the chair.

And, because cats like to scratch vertically, it may help to get a carpeted cat post for him to scratch, as a replacement for the back of the chair.

As for the table, I haven't the foggiest. I'm still trying to train my 2&1/2 year old cat that she's not allowed on the table or the kitchen counters.

Scratching is natural instinct so they won't stop unfortunately. Add a few scratching posts and any time he starts to scratch don't deter him, instead simulate with his paws the scratching on the post.

give him a little pat on the nose if he gets off the chair find him and say good boy
