Atheists: Who, what or where do you receive your 'source' of love from?

Since you do not acknowledge God at all, who IS love (1 John 4:16), then what is the origin or most vital part of what you know about love and where love actually comes from? For example, where does a parent's love toward their child come from? Or where does your love for family members and fellow human beings come from? What about love between a romantic couple? Do these all have the same source, or are they different in any way?

Considerate answers only please. And please, no crude language. Thank you.

Well no. "God" is not love, so much as just imaginary. Regardless, I've never understood how anyone can read the old testament with all the war, genocide, sacrifice, jealousy, and what not and claim that god is in any way loving. Yahweh sends people into a shi**y desert that is somehow supposed to be the wonderful "promised land" then has them kill every single living thing there...... Including women, children, and livestock. That's loving? Surely the omniscient creator of the universe could've found a "promised land" that was both a lot nicer and didn't already have people living there. Absurd. Regardless, love comes from the brain. We are a social species, pack animals if you will. Just like dogs. They act very loving. We evolved it, just like everything else.

Although I am not an athiest, I do not agree with what you are implying. God is not love. Love is not God. We get our love from the people around us and from goodness in people's hearts. Being an Athiest doesnt make you an unloving and immoral human being just as being a Christian does not make you a generous and saintly individual either. There have been more wars caused by Religion and people's beliefs in Human history than there have from people without beliefs. People have died and killed in the name of God and you profess that is love? The love a person feels for their spouse is between those two people and has little to do with God. If you are going to claim that God is love than you also have to accept that God's "love" has also killed and caused the suffering of millions of people.

Love is also a mental thing mind you. It is actually a chemical reaction in the brain sadly. I know, I would prefer it be something more magical but it is true.

The true source of love is the family, This love relationship starts from inside the mothers womb, later spread over all things in life. A god is not required as a source of love as can be seen among the animals who mate, love and care for their offspring's as well as the pets who come to love their owners.

    Common humanity!

No wonder you have to ask since implying anyone that does not believe as you do does not have love is the most disgusting and ungodly thing anyone could do!

England's Archbishop of Canterbury has said that Christianity is now known for it's hatreds and not about god!

Seek pastoral help to discover how to believe in the loving god and how to act as if you did before you commit yourself to eternity with the devil!

    Oxytocin

However, I should point out that "Christian love" does not seem like love to me at all. Christian love is very vain, and vulgar.

My love is very personal and intimate. The most disgusting thing I can imagine is taking my love and screaming it to every jackass I meet. And dragging it through every filthy back alley the way Christians do with their love.

When I love someone, they have never doubted it. And I have never needed to say it (though I sometimes choose to). They know my love because of the way I treat them, defend them, and care for them. I don't need to show it off to the world like gaudy jewelry for them to believe it.

Christian love is something so cheap and tawdry, that I see no need for it in my life....and I can't understand why anyone else does.

Only the authoritarian follower thinks that love needs to be approved by a leader in order to be valid. That's co-dependent thinking.

Secondly, it's a mere word-game to say god is love. You're simply making the word love mean god's characteristics so that love now means "that which god is". When you say god is love you really mean god is that which god is. It's an exercise in futility.

The source of love? Well, love is a concept we use to describe the emotions we feel towards someone else. We are evolved social primates with inherent altruistic traits evolved into us. We also have intelligence from having large brains, that allow us to form these conceptual words.

So, long story short our Brains.

There's love everywhere. Look hard enough, and you'll find it. I love my family, my friends, my dogs, my job, and I love helping others. I also love jazz, art, exercising, food...the list goes on. Love comes from your brain, not some book.

Religion does not automatically make you a moral or loving person. You have to already believe in kindness and love to put it into motion.

It comes from within. I also get love from family, friends who are important people in my life. To me, love doesn't need a specific source, it is in us all.

lvl 1 trolls are my source for laughter. Love comes from the heart.

You create an infinite regression if you think that love must always have a source higher than the one giving love. If God is love, then what is his source for love?
