When will be the right time to let my kitten roam around the house?
Hey!
I got my 8 week old kitten on the 18th, and so far I have been locking her up in the bathroom. My 3 year old male cat hissed at her, and if she got to close he swatted at her, but not too hard at all. He was more observant than wanting to hurt her.
About an hour a day I let her roam around the house. I have Feliway to help the process too. Today, aka two days after getting her, I let her out again, and my male cat did not hiss! They even bumped noses together. Once she got too close many of times he started to hiss again.
He's starting to eat again and he's even laying right beside me next to the computer and purrs when I pet him.
Should I leave the kitten in the bathroom for 1 solid week or should I let her out now? I know this is quick, but I am surprised as to my older cat who is not reacting bad.
(The male and female are both fixed, and the male is declawed in the front claws, still waiting to get the female declawed).

As long as you are there to watch the male to make sure he isn't hurting the kitten, you can allow them free run of the house. For the safety of the kitten, keep her confined when you're not there until you are sure that the male isn't going to hurt her. Just remember that your male has been king of the house and he may get jealous if you pay more attention to the kitten. That is easily remedied if you continue to give him plenty of one on one attention.
