    Yes and no.

In the comics, Thor Odinson recently became unworthy of carrying the hammer Mjolnir. As none of the other Asgardian Gods could lift the hammer, including Odin himself, Thor Odinson's mother Freyja decides to recruit someone from Earth to lift Mjolnir, as "there must always be a Thor"

The person from Earth just happens to be a worthy woman. The true identity of the new Thor has not yet been revealed, but it is speculated to be Rosalind Solomon, an agent of SHIELD who has worked with Thor before.

    Thor writer Jason Aaron explains:

"This is not the Thor we knew transformed into a woman. This is a new character; someone else picking up the hammer. I knew when I took over Thor that at some point I wanted to do a Beta Ray Bill-style story about somebody else wielding the hammer for awhile. It took me awhile to figure out what kind of story that should be and who the character should be.

"So we've never seen a big story about a woman picking up the hammer and if you look at the inscription on the hammer it even says, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." I'm going to flip that on its ear and for the first time see what it's like to have a brand new version of Thor who is female; the Goddess of Thunder."

I don't see why not. One time Thor was frog...

Anyway, the real Thor will eventually become worthy of the title again, as usual, so this is only a temporary change to show a female in a popular role. It's easier to alter an existing character to encourage representation, than to create an all new one. It can take a *long* for a superhero to attain popularity, especially if they deviate form the white male norm.

Marvel Comics is doing another "Secret Wars" story, and I think the female Thor is just a Thor from another universe. She may take over the comic for a while, but nothing is permanent in comics.
