Name one nice thing god does in the bible?
I read the first testament. I don’t think I found one nice thing about god. I am trying to understand why people think god is loving and wonderful. All I found was a petulant god having tantrums like a 3 year old.
What did I miss? I certainly did not read anything about a being worthy of any worship.
(The act of creation itself is neither nice nor brutal.)

You don't believe in God, so why are you wasting time asking that here?

He gave Satan permission to torment and kill Job's family and possessions. I think that Satan though it was nice. This is the only time in Bibical history that Satan actually harmed anyone or anything, and even then he couldn't do it without God's permission.
I don't think Job thought it was nice, nor his wife, his slaves, his servants, or his cattle. Thus, the Bible proves that God approves of moral relativity.

Jaded Sage: God forgives what or whom? He wasn't very forgiving with the Egyptians just because they happen to be born in Egypt and have a ruler who wasn't nice. (I wonder how many of those Egyptians helped the Israelites because they felt sorry for them. Joe Egyptian might have just gotten the job to support his family and have a heart, too.)
God wasn't very forgiving when the earth was flooded or when God destroyed Jericho (why were the Israelites better than the Egyptians or the people of Jericho).
Seems to me as though God plays favorites.
(Its interesting when I ask these questions to believers they have no answers...)

Wow. And you really read it?
Let's consider the very first chapter of the Bible. See if you can find even one of the ***several*** nice things that, according to that chapter, God did.

Now, if that's not enough for you - if there aren't enough nice things in that first chapter - then we can go on to the second chapter and locate the several nice things that God did there.
And so on and on.

He gave me a cookie. Really, why should God appease you? So if God doesn't reward you with a $$$$$ there is no God. Wait is it because God allows people to die? Wouldn't it be cruel if God didn't. Sorry your Porsche didn't fall from the sky.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I must first address your wording: in the bible. Because He is not just contained in the bible, for if every thing had been written down, no library big enough, could contain the sheer volume of books and thus, He had it written with specific facts.
Second, you are to be highly commended for at least, trying to read the first testament. But I wonder if you read it from page one of Genesis or just parts of it? The reason I ask is because depending on how we go about reading the bible, depends on the outcome of how we feel about our Creator. You could read how He destroys a nation without knowing WHY? You could read that He denounced Moses despite how faithful he was, due to one mistake and yet, David did far worse, to the human way of thinking and seem to get away with it!
When we just read the bible like a book, we miss vital information that pieces the bits together.
As for coming across as a 3 year old having a tantrum. Funny because I feel the exact opposite! I read how the Israelites flouted His rules continually and yet, when the going got tough, they demanded He listen and often He did.
What about Ninivia? He sent Jonah out there to denounce them, but God saw how repentant they were and so, did not destroy them!
One of my favourites is when a widower and her son, found they could not pay their rent and God sent a prophet to say that she was to collect jars off her neighbours and then fill them with oil and resell them and any residue from paying that day's rent, was theirs to keep. What God did was give the woman dignity, rather than doing it for her.
What about the widower again, with one child, who took a prophet in, but there was a huge famine in the area and yet, he still asked her to feed him. She did and her jar never came to an end! Then her son died and she begged the prophet, if he was truly a man of God, that he would beg his God to bring her son back to life. He did and God listened and brought back her son to life.
What about the king who came down with a terrible affliction and was told that he was going to die? He cried and begged for his life to not end, and God heard him and gave him 7 or so years extra but guess what happened? The man became boastful and so, was struck down! That is not God being in the wrong!
What about Abraham willing to offer up his only son and yet, God halted this because Abraham had proved his affiliation with God? God could have allowed Abraham to kill his son, because He could resurrect that son, but nope, He chose to let him live.
Going back the the widows. The one who could not pay her rent. God could have chosen to hide His face and not listen, but instead, He did the most wonderful act ie gave her dignity.
God did not have to listen to the prophet, but He did and the child once again, came to life.
The most wonderful act of all time, was giving up His own beloved son, Jesus for our benefit. He had already decided what to do, as recorded in Genesis and that purpose came to head when Jesus faithfully died for us.
I urge you to accept a free bible study because honestly, you will benefit yourself much. www.jw.org

Creating a mass genocide against the gays seem to be pretty good according to Christians.
Edit: Also, someone (a religious nut) moved your question to a different category. Move it back to its original one that you had it in.
Edit 2: Good, keep it in its original category. They were clearly butt hurt by hearing the truth.
