Can my fiance appear in court with me in a guardianship hearing or do we have to be married?

My daughters paternal grandfather is seeking legal guardianship of my daughter and not honoring our verbal agreement. I am currently in school for a trade and my fiance is working in management in a pool supply store. As a unit we would like to appear in court together about this situation.

Would the California courts accept this as we are engaged or do we have to just up and get married? Or would they not allow it either way?

You can bring him if you like since presumably you, he and the baby all live together now. I don't know how compelling any judge would find his testimony, but there is no harm in demonstrating a stable family unit and responsible income.
