My cat keeps pooping in front of the main door...what is going on?
Two months ago I went to Europe for two weeks and my fiancee stayed home. We've had our two cats for about 3 years. The first year we had the female, she would always poop in the tub. It finally stopped and started back up a few months ago, and then it stopped. While I was in Europe, my fiancee said she started pooping in front of the main door. When I returned, I thought it was just her way of acting out because I was gone. Well, it's been two months, and she is still doing it. I've already taken her to the vet, and she has a clean bill of health. Any ideas on why this might be?

Sometimes when cats feel anxious or insecure, they'll resort to marking their territory with poo (known as middening). The aim of leaving it somewhere prominent like next to a door or a window is so that it acts as both a visual and scent marker warning any rivals (real or imagined) to stay away. You can read more about the behaviour and how to deal with it in these articles;

Thorough cleaning of the soiled area is essential, because if she can detect even the faintest trace of her own scent, she'll continue to top-up that scent marker with more poo everytime it begins to fade. Enzyme cleaning products or biological washing detergent are best for the job;
