There are two major benefits that I have noticed. The first is that the trainer insures that I am doing the exercise (machine, free weight, aerobic, whatever) correctly so I do not hurt myself and am getting the proper benefit from the exercise (right muscles are being worked, weight is correct, reps are well-timed and counted).
The second is that having a standing appointment compels me to go on a regular basis. I'm much less likely to blow a session off when it is going to cost me anyway.
You could economize by using the trainer only during the early stages so you learn how to exercise properly, and then perhaps just pay for an occasional evaluation session to make sure you have not developed any bad technique, using too little/too much weight, and so on.

Watch youtube videos and actually go out and exercise. A personal trainer is good for motivation and personal connection. It depends on your desires.
Use the earth as your gym, its much cheaper and safer. Research 'calisthenics'

I'm sure it is as celebs have results all the time after using personal trainers. however, if you can learn to have motivation and google youtube videos, there's really no need for a personal trainer. I mean there are so many apps out there that monitor your daily intake of food, water, minutes of exercise, and counts your steps.

You'd need a list of pros and cons and a true self evaluation to determine if it were worth it. Meaning, would you be open to change, practice skills, and follow through on sessions? We can't make a general statement. If price is no object, there's no contention.

If you aren't good at pushing yourself beyond your limits then yeah it's worth it. I was super obese and I got a personal trainer the would come to my house every morning and wake my fat *** up and now I'm healthier than ever.
