Do you think a global Nuclear war would be a good thing?
No life, no suffering.
We can generally assume that for most sentient life on earth that
Presence of pain = Bad.
Absence of pain = Good.
Presence of pleasure = Good.
Absence of pleasure = Not bad.
Therefore in a situation where there is no life on Earth, we have absence of pleasure which is not bad, and the absence of pain, which is good.
What does not exist cannot suffer (therefore this non-existing pain is a good thing).
What does not exist cannot be deprived of any pleasure (therefore this non-existing pleasure is not a bad thing)
So wouldn't the ending of all life be a good thing? It seems from what we know that eventually the Earth will be destroyed in a few Billion years anyway, so why continue a needless cycle of suffering and horror for longer when it's doomed to end anyway?

No because life outweighs utilitarian philosophy.
The closest thing to your argument is the last man argument. Hence can only be coherent if you were the last man on earth. You are not the last man on earth therefore your argument is incoherent.
Your discounting the level of pain one might feel, not only physically, mentally as well. Not to mention the suffering of all those who have never suffered would be greater (subjectively) than the ones that have suffered. You must also take into account the animals and all living things able to feel pain and pleasure.
The collective pain of the world would outweigh the few pleasures of those that want to end their lives and even then, their physical pain may outweigh their pleasure. So even in the eyes of the utilitarian theory, life outweighs global death. For you cannot hope to know or accurately calculate what one may feel in regards to their life.
It may appear to be suffering, but they are genuinely happy. I refer you to the pacific islands. They are the happiest people on earth, yet they have very little (primitive by your standards) but they are very happy with their lives and cherish every moment. How could you define what suffering was, if suffering is also subjective? you can't, therefore your last man argument can only be coherent if you are the last man alive.

~~~ No, we cannot!
That is an immature and shallow Perspective, ignorant!
Your superficial judgmentalism is just that!
Pain tells you to get your butt off the stove or there will be system failure!
You imagine that is 'bad'?
Absence of pain with your butt frying is 'good'?
Really?
Most juveniles equate 'good' with what makes them personally comfortable, and 'bad/evil' with anything that brings discomfort!
How superficial and vain!
And the rest similarly fails, logically!
"I say that next to God there is no nobler thing than suffering. Right suffering is the mother of all virtues, for right suffering so subdues the heart, it cannot rise to pride but perforce is lowly." - Meister Eckhart
"Harkee, all rational souls! The swiftest steed to bear you to your goal is suffering; none shall ever taste eternal bliss but those who stand with Christ in depths of bitterness. Nothing is more gall-bitter than suffering, nothing so honey-sweet as to have suffered. The most sure foundation for this perfection is humility, for he whose nature here creeps in deepest depths shall soar in spirit to highest height of Deity.' - Meister Eckhart
"The growth of the soul in man is as that of a pearl in an oyster, both being caused by irritation." - Plato
Pain and Blessing/Bliss are One Reality!
The only difference is a matter of Perspective!
Get rid of dead wood. Humans superior? Haha!
Exceptionalism calptrap will be their undoing!!!
The cumbersome dinosaurs perished! Those dinosaurs who morphed into birds flourished.
Likewise x% of humans will survive. Poisoned water, food etc. In a world of famine No more slim stick bimbos endorsing slim = ??????
Anyway earth will cease to exist, when the sun explodes! Now that's a dead certainty!!
Humans, like roaches are not that easy to eliminate. Five years after the nuclear winter starts 100,000 nuclear Eskimos will be farming the ice.
Of course not.
In the darkness all seems to be suffering and misery, but the solution is simple: just turn on the light. Awaken your inner Self and all that which was misery turns out to be simply an innocent field of diversity.
Diversity without pure knowledge is misery. Diversity with knowledge is pure bliss.
any kind of explosion eliminates happiness . just right now , that's how fast happiness dies . and what is the use of unhappiness ? what good is it .
No,, nuclear energy is made from something other then life . and life and happiness are closer then family . so to separate one from the other would have to be done with death . and death is something other then life . so there you have it . nuclear anything . is anti life .
I am an ordinary earthling with lot of blemishes, shortcomings, deficiencies, defects and flaws. I know for certain that my poor or weak thinking either this way or that way is not going to have any direct effect on the future welfare and prosperity of the Universe.
The Utilitarian Philosophy "seek pleasure and avoid pain " is sheer nonsense ,life is what it is . The right approach is "if you can meet with success or disaster and treat those 2 imposters both the same ,Then you will be a man my son and the whole world will know you as such [Kipling]
No. I am quite happy.
You are one sick puppy.
Just because you are afraid to take responsibility for your own happiness, you think everyone should die?
Please grow up and realize that happiness is only a heartbeat away. You can be happy anytime you wish. It's all a matter of attitude.
