Will antibiotic resistance be what finally leads to the collapse of Western civilization?
Pretty soon the only way to prevent bacterial infection from spreading will be amputation, since bacteria are becoming resistant at such a fast rate.
3 AnswersMedicine4 years agoWhy are the crusades still not widely recognized as defensive wars fought against Muslim aggression in the middle ages?
The Crusades were a series of defensive wars against Islamic aggression in the Middle Ages and attempts to recapture the Holy Land from Muslim conquerors in order to allow safe pilgrimage and to protect and maintain the Christian presence there. Jerusalem had been Christian for hundreds of years when Caliph Omar seized it, and following that victory, Muslims warred their way into Egypt, other parts of Africa, Spain, Sicily, and Greece, leaving Christians dead and churches in ruins. They stole lands in the area now known as Turkey, destroying Catholic communities founded by St. Paul himself. They seized Constantinople -- the "second Rome" -- and threatened the Balkans. They warred their way as far north as Vienna, Austria and Tours, France.
How are the Catholics the bad guys for defending their lands and religion?

2 AnswersEnglish Football4 years agoWhere did Barcelona finish the season before Pep became manager?
Those who say he can only win with the best teams, well Barcelona were only third best in Spain and only managed 67 points the season prior to his taking over.
The season after (first under Pep) they were treble winners with virtually the same team.

I gotta go with Robbie De Niro...
2 AnswersMovies4 years agoSo how can we knock these obnoxious Chelsea fans down a peg or two?
I thought about bringing up the 3-0 Arsenal loss, but that'd be pointless as what rational non-Spurs person could ever take Arsenal seriously as a threat?
This leaves us in a bit of a dilemma.

4 AnswersPolls & Surveys4 years agoMourinho - Deluded or justified?
He said.
- Bravo should have been sent off for going in studs up on Rooney.
- United should have had two penalties.
I'd have to go with deluded personally. His intense hatred of Guardiola refuses to let him acknowledge he was bested by a tactically superior manager.
The new signings failed today when placed under pressure, it's very telling that United's most dangerous looking player was academy bumfluff Rashford.

4 AnswersPolls & Surveys5 years agoWhy is it that the thought of Man Utd having success and winning things makes people so angry and ruffled?
It's pretty amazing really.
Manchester Utd haven't been seriously competing for major trophies for 3 years now.
Yet STILL nobody can stand the thought of United winning, every new manager or player they get is "overrated" and "garbage" and people are desperately trying to convince themselves it will all end in failure.
And not just rival clubs either, random fans of clubs from the lower leagues as well as PL and European fans seem genuinely terrified and enraged by the idea of Manchester Utd being on top again.
8 AnswersEnglish Football5 years agoLa Liga fans, are you jealous that Man Utd got Mourinho whilst you're stuck with awful mangers like Zidane and Enrique?
Man Utd will soon be richer than both Barcelona and R Madrid, and now have the best manager in the world, who can turn the club into title winners again.
And then once again Man Utd will be able to attract the worlds best players and will subsequently dominate European football.
6 AnswersSpanish Football5 years agoDo you think a global Nuclear war would be a good thing?
No life, no suffering.
We can generally assume that for most sentient life on earth that
Presence of pain = Bad.
Absence of pain = Good.
Presence of pleasure = Good.
Absence of pleasure = Not bad.
Therefore in a situation where there is no life on Earth, we have absence of pleasure which is not bad, and the absence of pain, which is good.
What does not exist cannot suffer (therefore this non-existing pain is a good thing).
What does not exist cannot be deprived of any pleasure (therefore this non-existing pleasure is not a bad thing)
So wouldn't the ending of all life be a good thing? It seems from what we know that eventually the Earth will be destroyed in a few Billion years anyway, so why continue a needless cycle of suffering and horror for longer when it's doomed to end anyway?

3 AnswersSociology5 years agoIs it grammatically correct to use numbers instead of words in a sentence?
For example:
Between 700 and 300 lies 400.
or
Between seven hundred and three hundred lies four hundred.
Which is correct? And how much would the incorrect version irritate a grammar Nazi?
20 AnswersWords & Wordplay5 years agoMan City 1-3 Leicester: Is this REALLY a shock result?
City are a pile of absolute sh*t.
THRASHED by Liverpool.
THRASHED by Tottenham.
THRASHED by Stoke.
THRASHED by Leicester.
Why are City put on a pedestal despite being a total pile of sh*t?
23 AnswersEnglish Football5 years agoWhy do you think there are so few Tories on YA?
Seems like they're vastly outnumbered here, despite the fact they won a majority in an election less than a year ago.
Why do you think that despite clearly being a large group of people they're so underrepresented here?
Do you think they're just too busy making money and being succesful to sit around complaining about how unfair life is on the internet all day?
11 AnswersCurrent Events5 years agoWhy do many atheists not like it when someone describes themselves as agnostic rather than Atheist?
I see quite a few people stating that when someone asks you what your religious views are "agnostic" is not a suitable answer.
However, the definition of agnosticism is believing that it is impossible to know whether a god exists or not, the definition of Atheism is lacking a belief in deities.
So if we're agnostic and concede that we cannot know whether there's a god or not, then what does our "belief" have to do with anything? Since it's just speculation with no solid reliable evidence to back it up?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoWhy are the Tories so afraid of making more cuts?
We need MOAR cuts.
Just because you're in a wheelchair doesn't mean you can't answer calls in a telephone centre, all you need is a headset.
They've only just won an election less than a year ago and have a majority, so now is the best time to make deeper and harder cuts, yet they're backing down at the first sign of opposition every time.
It's all very disappointing, What are they afraid of?
