when should you start to do volunteer work?

I am going to be a freshman in college in the fall. I am studying to be a physicians assistant and I looked up the admission requirements in order to get into most physician assistant programs and they require that I have 1,000 hours of clinical experience/volunteer work. When is a good time to start?

I would say to start right away, but also don't overwhelm yourself with a lot of volunteer work since you are barely getting to know college. I say start early and slowly that way when you're ready to apply for the Physician assistant programs you already did most of your volunteer work. If you wait until last minute you're not going to have a lot of time between the studying, possible jobs, responsibilities, and more difficult classes.

Double check on the fine print. I think you are expected to do these hours after you graduate from college. All the people I know who have gone to PA school completed their BS/BA degree and then worked for six months to a year before applying to PA school.
