What is federal lifetime probation?

I read that a man who was trying to attack the capitol building was sentenced to 30 years PLUS lifetime probation. If he serves his entire 30 years in the slammer and gets out and then violates the probation, what happens? He's served the entire sentence.

Update:

I'm not making myself clear. Yes, I understand that he might be jailed for a time. The question is HOW LONG since he did the 30 years flat already? Can they keep him jailed indefinitely? Who decides, etc?

He would go back to prison just as anyone else that violated probation.

No, he hasn't served the entire sentence if the sentence includes lifetime probation.
