Do male animals have a concept of fatherhood like people do?

When I go on the internet and see photos and videos of domestic cats nurturing their young and just generally raising their kittens, it's usually the mother doing all of that, but I've never seen any where the father is doing anything. When two domestic cats have a litter of kittens together, does the father register those kittens as his and take part in raising them like or do they not get involved because they didn't feel as much of a connection from not being the pregnant one?

Basically, if a male cat impregnates a female and the kittens come out, is the male like "oh hey I helped make those so I'll raise them too" or is he like "I don't know how this pregnancy happened so I'll just mind my own business"? This is assuming the mother and father live together and have a close relationship, I'm not talking about strays just hitting it and quitting it.

I heard that in Ancient Greece some people had not yet known that pregnancy was the result of sex and believed it just came out of nowhere and I know that animals obviously don't get sex education so I'm not sure if animal fathers actually register their offspring as theirs since they're not the pregnant ones.

90% of ALL the species on earth where a male is concerned have no concept of fatherhood. They have one instinct when it comes down to it, and that's MATING. Spreading their seed as much as they can to make copies of their species then die. The end. It is the female's job in the species to rear the young, feed them, clean them, and prepare them for adulthood.

Fatherhood is also more prominent in mammals more than any other in the animal kingdom, but even then, pretty loosely defined. A male elephant may embrace his offspring, while another male may want to kill it as a threat. A male lion will play and nurture his cubs, while another male lion chases it from the pride. Really, you can only go based off their general behaviors, but like humans, mammals have VERY distinct personalities and it really depends.

i've never heard of a male cat that helped to raise the kittens... cats and dogs in season shall mate with as numerous males as they can find, so one particular male wouldn't feel any paternal pride for the whole litter, even if there was only one father...wild wolves are raised by both parents... once in a blue moon a male dog shall help riase the puppies... it's rare...in a wolfpack, there's only one breeding pair so that male knows he is the father, unlike dogs who often have multiple fathers to a litter...

male cats shall kill their mother's kittens sometimes so the female shall go into heat again... in numerous cases, once the kittens are weaned, the mother has had enough of them and yeah, the male kittens shall mate with the mother

No. Most times the tom is long gone as mom was outside and mated with more then one male. In controlled purebred breeding its a little different. I have a stud male and he plays with his own kittens. So does our altered boy - he loves to play with the kittens.

    NOpe

Most male kill and EAT young even if they are their own. They have no concept of parenthood like primates, elephants, dolphins and whales and humans do. Lower animals only work on instincts.
