Don't try to nap if it's not happening, just relax and read a book. Even tho your not napping, it'll still help save some energy

What I do, and it was actually recommended to me by an "expert", it sounds counter-intuitive, but it works.
Set your alarm for like 10 or 15 minutes
Drink a cup of coffee
lay down and take a short nap.
When the alarm wakes you the coffee will have kicked in and you will fell wide awake

You can take a nap by laying and resting on your bed without any work and thought

Umm..this Is what I do so it might not work for everyone, but it's worth trying.
Ok since you never take naps, you won't just get in there quickly.
-Go to your room, make sure its dark and quiet.
-Don't use your phone no matter what, just put it there and let it lie down
-If you know any meditation techniques..apply them to your sleep.
Example: taking deep breath, exhaling from the mouth while closing your eyes.
-Best way to get your body a bit more sleepy, stretch before you go to bed. Stretching increases blood flow which helps you relax.
-My favorite routine is to close my eyes and just imagine things,like..cut down an orange, try to know how it tastes like.
Going deep in imagination is a self hypnosis technique used in naps.
Think that you are under water, swim around and then you find a treasure box. See where I'm going with this?
Taking a nap isn't easy but..if you make a habit out of it..it could be very helpful

Salam,
the thing that works for me is to switch sides on the bed or to switch beds. This is because the bed will feel more comfortable since it has not compressed to the mass of your body and this would put pressure on your back making it more difficult to sleep I hypothesize, this works for me. You should avoid eating anything before sleep as this would give you energy, sleep in earlier, this will help.
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." (13:28 - Noble Quran)
Remembering Allah before sleep always works for me. In the remembrance of our Lord Allah Most Merciful do human hearts find rest.
I recommend you read the Noble Quran along with Ibn Kathirs Tafsir, so as to understand it.
May Allah guide you to the religion of mercy and truth, Islam.
wa salam.

set an alarm. I'm actually good about setting a mental alarm. I just think about whatever time I want to wake up at and repeat it in my head a few times. its never failed.
