Question about nerve damage?

A couple months back I was bitten by a cat on my middle finger, it went deep and severed the nerve which caused numbness for about 2 months.

Currently, I have recovered all sensations, but I have noticed a certain sensitivity to cold that I haven't experienced before.

When I was my hands with cold water or handle cold things I experience an electrical shock sensation in the area where sensation was lost.

Is this due to the new nerve endings being more sensitive?

Yes it is. I had the same problem after a Knee Op. It took a very long time for the nerve endings to heal themselves.
