Ears Flipped Backwards.?

Chihuahua puppy with long ears flaps that often get flipped backwards.

I flip them back to factory setting because I see so many tiny blood vessels in the flaps and think the flipping backwards can't be good for blood flow? Does it hurt, uncomfortable? They generally only get flipped backwards while moving in her sleep and doesn't notice.

Yes, I'm being a worry wart. We have a Vet visit next Friday and I will ask our Vet about this then, but I would like a little peace of mind before hand =)

It's nothing to worry about and fairly normal for a dog with large self-standing ears. As the puppy looks pretty young still, the cartilage will stiffen more as she ages, and this won't happen as often.

"Ears Flipped Backwards.?" Is not a question, it's a statement, placing a question mark after a statement, doesn't automatically make it a question and is a reportable violation of YA guidelines.

It happens with many pups as well as dogs until the ears becomes stronger as it matures on dog that are suppose to have erect ears, such as a GSD, unless it's poorly bred and/or a mix. Other dogs who's ears aren't suppose to be erect, do too.

  • "Dad, there's a problem with the dog, you better come quick, There's a giant hole and I can see inside its head" from an 8 year old, true story.

Anyway, dogs didn't have droopy ears until we began domesticated them. Those ears, if they get cut, will not stop bleeding and the vet will suggest a) stitches that will pull apart, or b) shorten the ear. We had a dog with one ear shorter than the other.

Those Batlike ears are enormous and I`d always be worrying that all sorts of debris and insects could fall down into them.

However I don`t think the fact that they they flip backwards is not something I personally would be worried about. Jmo.
