Aren't they slaves?

If government employees are expected to go to work even without pay, isn't that the definition of slavery?

    Theoretically, the employees will be getting paid. Theoretically, the employees can find another job.

    Not quite. It’s not illegal for them to leave, and they will get backpay. Don’t get me wrong; it sucks canal water.

    You need to look up the true definition of slavery. If you think that working for nothing is equivalent to slavery, then you totally misunderstand what slavery really is.

    The can quit.

    That is not the definition of slavery.

    Look to Mauritania today for actual Slavery. NO pay, NO freedom of movement, humans being bought and sold by others. That is slavery.
