Why are animes so much more popular than mangas are?

1) Money. Manga can be expensive. Yes, you can read it online, but sometimes those websites aren't legal, or the translation is amateurish or is just boring to read on a screen.

2) Most people simply don't enjoy reading, even manga.

3) It's less action-packed. With all due respect to Hajime Isayama's work, don't you think those epic fighting scenes in AoT with the 3D gear and all are waaay more enganging on the screen with the background music and all than on the manga?

anime is more accessible since it airs on tv and you don't need to spend money on buying the books and some people can engage with a story when it has motion and color. for example, part 5 of jojo's bizarre adventure is currently airing. when i read part 5, i hated it. it didn't like the characters and had trouble following what was going on in fights, but i love it now that i'm watching it. things like the animation, voice acting, shot composition, and even the extra scenes they added to flesh out the bad guys made big fights like the train fight honestly breathtaking.

Animation is probably more captivating to the normal person.I feel that most people (not sure about japanese) first get into manga after watching anime.

Not sure, maybe manga requires more effort. Both of them are just things to keep the mentally ill busy, although they do make mentaI iIIness worse. It's generally free and easily available on the internet so even those living on disability can watch it and pass the time, but anime is probably easier to find than manga that's been translated.
