Doubtful that even the Democrat leadership can shield him from the consequences of his actions. If Federal charges are brought then the chances are practically zero. One reason for punishing criminals is to prevent other people committing the same crime and everybody who isn't biased says that Smollett absolutely deserves to be jailed. I'm waiting for Smollett's suicide attempt when he tries to kill himself with 4 aspirins to garner sympathy. Smollett does have the mental illness defence sewn up because no-one is disputing that Smollett has a severe case of TDS.

Not a chance. He is black. He is gay and he is a celeb. Already people on the left think what he did was no big deal. I would be really surprised if he gets jail time. At most I think he will get a fine or community service or both.

I'm amazed that he hasn't "voluntarily entered" some sort of rehab, drunk/drug withdrawal, therapy or similar program so he can claim to be yet another kind of victim. Maybe he's too busy selling the book & movie rights to his tale of tripe.

Big chance. His high powered lawyers will probably get him off with probation.
