How long does it take for effects of pepper spray to wear off?
My husband had to get sprayed to be certified to use it at his job. It s been over 24 hours. His vision is still not completely normal, but I heard it takes longer for the eyes to recover if you re diabetic.
My real concern is he s done nothing but sleep and vomit since. Should I be concerned, or is this a normal part of recovery?
He has a corneal abrasion in one eye. It may be infected. Turns out the other symptoms were from ketoacidosis. His blood sugar hasn't been bad, so this is a surprise. I'm super worried. He'll be in the hospital for a while. Thank you to everyone who answered.

Its not at all normal. The effects typically wear off in an hour or two, and effects that last more than 6 hours are very rare. Its possible that he just happened to get a virus around the same time as the pepper spray test. Being sleepy is not a symptom of pepper spray. If he can hold in fluids long enough to absorb them and if the symptoms don't worsen he should eventually be OK. If he has any other symptoms besides eye discomfort and nausea, it might be a good idea to take him to an ER.
