Someone I know got a call saying They are gonna go to jail for sending money to Nigeria ?
Is this true ? Is it illegal to send money there ?

If the call was from Nigeria. If he sent over U.S.$10,000 in a single transaction. He could go to jail in Nigeria. Lucky some one called & warned him to not go there. That would be money laundering there.

If you get a request to send money to nigeria it is usually a scam.

It's not illegal, but it's beyond stupid to send money to scammers in Nigeria.

Most likely the answer to both questions is no. I don't know you or your friend so I can't say definitively whether this is true or not but I think it is unlikely. The only way it would be illegal is if the money was being sent was involved in some kind of criminal activity or if it was to support terrorists.

If you get a call threatening jail, it is a scam. It doesn't matter what else is said.

Let me guess, the person who got the call about being sent to jail for sending money to Nigeria was asked to send money to someone else.
No, it's not illegal to send money to Nigeria, but this someone you know isn't very bright.
