Am I at risk for getting Diabetes?

The other day I got bloodwork done and it showed that my blood sugar level is pre-diabetic. I found that strange because I'm pretty healthy and followed their procedure for fasting 12 hours before the bloodwork was done. Also, my bodyweight, BMI, and blood pressure are all very normal, and I do many sports like cross country so I'm in very good shape. I was just wondering if this should be a concern or if the test may be inaccurate or something.

Lifestyle is only part of the risk factors for developing diabetes.

Heredity is also a risk and so is age.

Did the doctor actually tell you that you are pre-diabetic or did you just look up the number and assume that it is.  If the doctor was concerned - he would run more tests.  If the doctor considered this an inaccurate reading, then he may be waiting until the next time  you have blood work done at a future appointment.

Almost every person on earth has some of the risk factors for diabetes.  AGE is a risk factor - and unless you die young - everyone ages.  So - are you at risk - yes.  Is it because of this reading - probably not or your doctor would have checked more things.

I have been pre for 7 years. Not worried it's just a number.

If it’s a1c, it’s pretty accurate since it takes an average of 1-3 months. The finger prick glycosides test is like an instant measurement. Try taking a finger prick test before and after you drink a glass of water or before and after you eat a candy.

Does diabetes run in your family. Genetics play a bigger role than your healthy lifestyle.
