I plan to file a petition to appeal academic dismissal at my school over my discontinuation from the psych program.?

I've never been told to do so but since some advisors including my former advisor and associate dean of the college, can such petition work for anyone to overrule a recent discontinuation decision?

Update:

I mean some advisors including my former advisor and associate dean of the college told me no way can I get back into the degree program, this is what I'm doing. So can a petition to appeal academic dismissal over my discontinuation do anything at all to give me reinstatement?

Most universities have an official appeal process/procedure for any academic penalty.  You are welcome to follow that process.  Filing an appeal doesn't imply let alone guarantee that the university's decision will be changed.

I'd assume that the former advisor and dean are telling you the truth.

Would need a lot more detail before we could comment on this.
