  • criminal defense lawyer giving legal advice for custody matters?

My ex & I will be going to court for custody issues. I recently found out his "attorney" is his aunt, a pre-law graduate specializing 100% in Criminal Defense. I know no one can KNOW how much she knows about family law, but in general do criminal defense attorneys really know enough? I've heard for custody matters it's fairly imperative to have an attorney specializing in Family Law. Just wanting to know what I'm up against.

  • Supposed protective order violation?

My friend's ex has a PO against him & she is now saying he violated it by trying to contact her. She has no proof (since it didn't happen) but since he has the order out on him, will they just take her word? If they rule in her favor, what happens to him? Will he get arrested?

    Thank you :)

  • Toddler showing autism symptoms?

I'm concerned about my two and a half year old son. I know all children develop at their own rate but I can't help but be concerned. He shows numerous "warning signs": limited vocabulary, anti-social around other kids, walks on tip toes, has weird tendencies (shakes when he's upset or just stares, pulls out arm/leg/face hair, etc.), uses my hands as tools to get what he wants instead of asking for it, gets very upset if things aren't done exactly as he wants them, seems deaf at times, VERY picky eater, etc. My 21 month old cousin and even my 11 month old daughter seem to be developing much quicker than he has (I don't mean they're ahead of him, but developed at a notably faster speed than he has so far). I've spoken with his pedi a number of times about my concerns but she chalks it up to him being very stubborn. She says that if he we still have concerns by his 3 yr check up, she'll do some diagnostic questionnaires. I really want to get a second opinion but my partner thinks we should give him until his 3 yr check-up to "bloom".

I'm looking for your opinions on whether or not you would get the second opinion. I don't see the harm in it but for some reason (denial, fear?) my SO is adamantly against it. Also, if you're the parent or know an autistic toddler, what his/her behavior around this age? Lastly, if you have a toddler at all or spent ample amount of time with one, what was their behavior around this age?

Thank you very much and I appreciate all responses!

  • Southwest online check in, also busy airports tomorrow?

I'm flying from Vegas to Portland tomorrow at 9 am. I've checked in & printed my boarding pass but I was wondering if I still have to go the southwest check in counter (I'm not bringing a checked bag, only carry on)? Probably a dumb question, I just wanted to be sure. Also, if you've flown early New Years day, are the airports busy? People have told me it will be crazy busy and other people have told me it's pretty slow.

Thank you& happy new years everyone!

  • What do you think? So cellophane?

I just found this poem from a few years ago. What's your opinion on it?

Lollipop dreams melt fast in this inferno reality.

Open those pretty, cold blue eyes and look around. Where are your fairies & unicorns now?

I'm all that you have. No magic, just manipulation. On both sides of the sea.

So cross this tempestuous ocean, if you really think you can. You be Ponce de Leon and I'll be Columbus.

Revered and cruel. This new world is ours.

I need something to hold so I can let go. But don't give me your hand.

    I'd rather fall.

  • Stuck in this house until lease ends?!?

We're renting a house in california. We've been here for a miserable 1 & 1/2 yrs. We signed a 3 yr lease because we were told this house was easily repairable & a great deal for the area. As first time renters we were too quick to believe this (our own fault & a big lesson learned). On our rental agreement it says we accept the house "as-is". For 3 mths we paid half rent (full rent is $500) as agreed to cover costs to fix the ceiling in one bedroom(needed to be totally replaced), paint all the rooms, new carpet/flooring in 4 rooms, and buy a fridge .After all was said & done it came out costing much more than the $750. We've had electric problems (Heck, the bathroom & dining room don't even have outlets), plumbing problems, foundation problems, etc. We've tried fixing it ourselves to no avail, these problems call for expertise we don't possess nor can afford. Now, since the lease states we accept it "as-is", our landlord refuses to pay for anything. Am I stuck in this house for another 1 &1/2 yrs? Is there anything I can do or am I SOL?! I have 2 young children & I'm honestly afraid for their safety in this house.

    Thank you for any help/info!

  • Exhibitionist druggie neighbor, peeping. should we call cops?

My sister just called and told me that our weird, druggie (meth) neighbor was watching her through the fence. When he saw her, he ran off but he didn't have pants on. Should she call the local police? This isn't the first time we caught this creeper looking through the fence, but it is the first time someone's noticed he wasn't wearing pants.

  • Nikon coolpix S60 or P80?

I'm wanting to get a camera. I found these two on craigslist and am now trying to decide which one.

I'm interested in photography but I also want a camera I can use casually, for pictures of my son and what have you. Image quality is one of my top priorities. Along with ease of use and ability to catch a 16 mth old in action ;) I'm leaning more towards the P80 but I'm just not sure!

    Please help. Thanks!

  • oh lawdy, false positive?

So, I know false positives are rare, but what if it already had a faint 'positive line' *before* it was even taken & it was left in a hot car? I say the chances are very possible it's false, but my friend is freaking out. She's testing again tomorrow she says, but for her sake, what's your opinion? Please, I'm getting a headache from her :(

  • All incoming calls on my G1 are coming up as unknown?

4 days ago, all incoming calls on my G1 (through tmobile) are showing up as "unknown". This happened after my boyfriend messed with my phone. He claims all he did was forceclose all my apps, as I was running out of memory space. I called Tmobile and they said it might be an app and the best thing to do would be factory reset. i don't want to lose all the apps I paid for! Does anyone else know of another way? Thanks so much!

  • Does anyone know this show...?

I used to watch this show when I was younger but I cannot remember the name, or much about it. In the beginning there was like a book, and some Native Americans and it liked zoomed through a canyon or something...it was about different stories, kind of like Twilight Zone or Tales from the Darkside but they weren't macabre (well, I don't think they were). I it was form the 80's/90's. Sorry I know it's not much to go off of, but does anyone know what I'm talking about?

  • What would you like to ask?3-4 week old kittens help?

I found 3 kittens in my shed. I put them in a box and I've been waiting for the past few hours to see if the mom cat would come around. Every time I check, there's no sign.

They seem to be about 3-4 weeks old. I'm worried the mother cat might not take them anymore since I touched them. I feel bad, I was trying to help keep them warm. So, should I wait a little longer, leave it be or take them in & start feeding them kitten formula? They were thin when I found them, and they seem hungry:(

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Does this sound good or tacky? ((free-verse/abstract poem))?

I lay next to him in the noisy silence of the morning

My head rests on his strong shoulder

I wonder if he can feel the weight, the heaviness of my thoughts

    They cloud reason, cover solution

    I don't know what I'm doing

    I don't ask

Learn from these things, you always hear

    Learn from what?

A bird sings a lonely song

    and then he flies away

I wish I could fly away, too

I would fly to outer space and spend the night on Pluto

Farthest away I can think of

Pretending I need no one, I turn my head from his face

I roll over and face the big window

He rolls over, asks what's wrong

What's wrong is you don't care, you know and don't care

    I want to scream

    I say "nothing"

    He rolls back over

I'm alone, daydreaming of Pluto and getting nowhere fast

Where do I go from here?

Days eat days, over and over, the same thing

    I lost control

    When did I lose control?

When he let me walk away?

I left my heart that night. It was busted up anyways

Did you bring it back this time?

I'm afraid it's left in the past

    And
