  • Flat Earthers, please help me understand what I saw.?

I was in the navy for 8 years. I sailed on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

When we were out on the ocean, even if we had our stern to the land as we just left, the water curves forming an arch. Once far enough from land, that arch exists all around me.

From my vantage point, there is no doubt that the earth is not flat.

    Please explain what I saw.

  • What if we planted trees along the edge of a desert?

What would happen if trees were planted within a few hundred meters of the edge of a desert. If that process was continued and we chose trees that thrive in that climate, could we reforest a desert?

  • Why does the USA still have a race problem?

The civil war ended over a century ago. Segregation ended over 50 years ago.

Why is it that the USA still seems to have a race issue?

Much of the western world has moved on, why can't the USA?

  • What good is NAFTA?

NAFTA removed tariffs from lower wage markets. For example, the same product made in Canada, USA and Mexico, the wages would be the most expensive in Canada, and the cheapest in Mexico. This has seen good paying manufacturing and refining jobs leave Canada for USA or Mexico. If those tariffs were still in place, that would not have happened.

  • Help me understand trans.?

I hear people say they are a woman trapped in a man's body, or a man trapped in a woman's body.

In this day and age, women and me have almost equal opportunities.

If it comes down to sexual pleasure, no matter the procedure, you will still never fully experience all that the other gender can do.

I have read online where a person changed sexes, and had the operations to make those changes permanent.

Please help me understand what the issue is.

  • Why do you need religion in your life?

I am not concerned about what your religious beliefs are. I am just trying to understand why someone needs religion.

Would you not being part of a religion cause you to act in a bad way?

    How?

Please direct me to government websites to help me understand what I can do.

  • Why do people not wear swimwear when doing dry land training?

When someone is doing dry land training for swimming, diving, water polo, or synchronized swimming, they tend to ear tshirt and shorts. However, one of the goals of dry land training is to familiarize yourself with movements you will be doing in the water/air while wearing swimwear.

Is there a reason this is done that way?

  • Chicago Hotels near the "EL"?

I plan to visit Chicago for a few days in the winter. I will be driving from Canada and would rather not drive and park everywhere I plan to visit in the city. I would rather drive to my hotel and hop the EL to get around.

I would like to spend under $100 USD.

How would I go about finding this? Most websites do not work with this search.

  • Things to do in Chicago during the winter?

I plan to visit Chicago by myself this winter, likely in February or March. I will be driving, and staying in a hotel near the "L".

I like museums, unique attractions and eating local food. McDonalds is not local.

As some one visiting Chicago for the first time, what would be the top things you would suggest? What are true Chicago cuisine?

  • Could an asteroid or other moving celestial body become another moon of the Earth?

I was thinking that if an object roughly the same size or smaller were to pass close enough to Earth, but not hit the Earth, that Earth's gravity would cause the object to orbit the Earth.

Is this possible? What would the parameters be for this to happen?

What would happen on Earth when this occurs? (Tides, earthquakes, etc)

  • How does Batman change his clothes so quickly?

Superman can use his extreme speed to change his clothes quickly.

Batman is not super human, He does not have super speed. He is strong, but, no where fast enough to get changed that quickly.

Whether it be the spandex of the 60s or the rubber of the last few decades, he has to take off his suit and put on the Batman suit.

So, going down the pole, how does he get changed?

  • What would happen if seawater was pumped into Death Valley?

As I understand, California is in a sever drought. Part of the problem is that the aquifer is drying up faster than it can be replenished.

If a network of pipes and pumps fed water from the ocean into the basin, what would happen?

Would the salt water from the ocean be filtered by the ground such that only fresh water would be in the aquifer?

Would this cause the levels in Lake Mead to rise?

I know that there is life living in the basin, would they end up dying, or would they be able to thrive in the new water being added?

Would having water in the area cause the area's average temperature to lower?

Would this be able to produce more fresh water than spending the same amount of money on Desalination plants?

  • If all the ships were removed from the ocean, would there be a noticeable difference in the sea level?

Ships displace water. Every object placed in water will displace that volume.

There are thousands, if not millions of ships out there displacing enormous volumes of water. If all that volume was added up, would it lower the sea level by any real amount?
