i hurt my ankle 4 and 1/2 weeks ago and its still swollen. i had xrays showing no fractures or dislocations. i had an mri showing no tear. i was told it was an ankle contusion. i was given an aircast and was told to use crutches lightly touching my toe to the ground. i am using a walking boot and crutches now and i still have swelling and pain. i was given a prescription for pain meds. i am going to the dr tomorrow again and he said i may need a cat scan. will i need a cast if theres no fracture?

  • Ankle sprain??

I was walking last Friday and my right ankle rolled a little bit. I went to a doctor that Monday for a left knee problem and so he took a look at the ankle too. I was given an aircast and was told it would be better in 72 hrs and its now been 10 days and its still swollen. I kept off of it on Thursday-today but its still swollen and painful. Since its my left knee and right ankle, i cant use crutches really because theres nowhere to put the weight. and a wheelchair would not be good for the knee because it has to be used. any ideas??

  • Knee was drained twice in less than a wk -blood. Arthroscopic surgery to remove tha plica-3 wks ago. NORMAL??

I'm 15 yrs old and I've had chronic knee pain since January. I had physical therapy for 18 weeks with no relief. I was checked for lyme disease, recieved a cortisone shot (helped for only 8 hrs) and I've gone though 6 different pain medications but none have helped. I had multiple x-rays, an MRI, and a bone scan-all looked normal. I went to 7 doctors (orthopedic surgeons, children orthopedic surgeons, sports injury specialists) and finally on September 25th I had arthroscopic surgery to remove the plica. The next day I felt well enough to go to the library (using crutches to help walk) and with the doctors okay, I went. I was off the crutches for about a week then went back on them b/c I went back to school (after a holiday vacation) and was extremly swollen and in tons of pain! So I've had my knee drained 2x in less than a week and both times blood was drawn. I am a little swollen after going back to school and I want to know if this is normal!
