Ankle sprain??

I was walking last Friday and my right ankle rolled a little bit. I went to a doctor that Monday for a left knee problem and so he took a look at the ankle too. I was given an aircast and was told it would be better in 72 hrs and its now been 10 days and its still swollen. I kept off of it on Thursday-today but its still swollen and painful. Since its my left knee and right ankle, i cant use crutches really because theres nowhere to put the weight. and a wheelchair would not be good for the knee because it has to be used. any ideas??

Update:

i had xrays done already and there is no fracture or dislocation. ive also been taking nsids and a prescription that is used to help my knee.

Update 2:

its not bruised. i sprained this ankle 4x (first time was worse than a break) many years ago and it has never acted up since. so this is completly new. also i have midterms this week so i kinda need to go to school

Update 3:

it is also very stiff, so after i ice it, it is so painful

First of all, you should not have waited 10 days. It sounds like a torn ligament or you could have even chipped a bone. Sometimes it doesn't take much to hurt a body part. My advice, get an x-ray to see just what is wrong. I said this the other day in an answer and now I'll tell you. A doctor told me once that a bad sprain can be worse than a break. Is it bruised? Keep you foot elevated, use ice packs and I know this will be hard, but stay off of it for a while. Boy, do I know your pain. Also, take an anti inflammatory for the swelling. Please go back to the MD or ER. Somethings not right.

Addendum, if the x-ray didn't show anything, the perhaps you should suggest and MRI to your doctor, They are so much more reliable than x-rays because it's done in 3D. I'm surprised your doc didn't do it. Or didn't you go back. You really need to be seen again if this doesn't stop.

I recognise you do not wish to listen to this...however my buddy is this sort of sporting events addict as of approximately two years in the past, and seeing that she simply randomly began move nation going for walks and cycling within the woodland close her apartment, driving three days every week (horses) monitor practices three days every week, (sundays she is going for further runs and motorbike rides) and not using a prior coaching earlier than that besides for infrequent runs external her as soon as every week driving classes and college monitor practices (she is this sort of enthusiast...I do not see how she does it however...) she sprains her ankle(s) once or more a month. SPRAINS NEVER HEAL COMPLETELY. her mother is a nurse and constantly reminds her of that, she wears a tensor/ace bandage, and an ankle brace, on each and every ankle whether or not its sprained or now not (heavier ones for while theyre truthfully sprained) seeing that she was once so reckless (and she or he's correct right here as I kind this lol, however she's busy ranting approximately how her horseshow was once cancelled seeing that of rain lol) she ended up pressure fracturing an already sprained ankle gambling volleyball, (and she or he sprained it in the course of baseball). the one factor she will be able to do now could be journey. No distance going for walks or sprinting, no cycling, simply driving, seeing that it is the handiest factor that does not harm it. She is probably not thoroughly healed till the tip of September, and has to spend her cash that more often than not is going to horse stuff, on physio. This is protecting her again from the 800 m provincials. the outcome sucks...it's going to heal a lot much less when you play...and despite the fact that she nonetheless excercised, nonetheless rode, nonetheless went to monitor meets and horseshows, she regrets it, seeing that the everlasting soreness and pain from braces and tensors holds her again. (she additionally has Osgood-Shlatters Disease and has to put on two kneee braces on each and every knee even as going for walks and cycling) pass forward and play, simply be particularly cautious approximately whether or not or now not you could have earlier sprained it. observe from buddy: "I could like to mention that Jamie's being dramatic...which probably the wording makes it appear like that, however sure I am very damage susceptible... however no soreness so long as I'm dressed in the braces...however she's correct, sprains not ever heal. I roll over on my ankle, it hurts for hours or days, if I travel, equal factor. BE CAREFUL..."
