I love horses, dogs, theater, writing, Camp Cedarledge, random things, broccoli, tap dancing, art, strawberries, and my yellow lab Duke.
Do you go under the horse's head or behind to get to the other side?
My first riding experience was at a summer camp. Everyone there said to walk behind the horse's butt and pat the butt so the horse would know that you were there. They always said that as long as you walked close enough, the horse couldn't kick because it would only touch your feet or ankles and wouldn't do much harm.
After a couple summers at that camp I started taking riding lessons. There, the barn owner warned me not to walk behind a horse because it could kick and hurt you. He said to go under its neck instead.
Then, I went back to the camp and got a lecture about how a horse could kill you if you went under its neck if it reared or something.
I'll probably just continue to go under at the barn and around at the camp. I can see how both make sense. I'm just wondering how you all have been taught. Do you go around your horse's butt or under its neck?
32 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHas anyone ever tye dyed a saddle pad?
I got this white white one when I bought another one and I never use it because it's boring. Do you think I could dye it? Would it be safe for the horse? Would the dye come out easily? Any tips?
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoShould I ask to ride a different horse or just stick it out with this one?
I used to ride a variety of horses and I got to know a few of them really well and I took my favorite to a show and even placed first and second. For some reason, after the show, my trainer keeps putting me on this huge horse. He's fairly green and he's a major klutz. I like riding him once in a while, he's really sweet and is a nice challenge. Once in a while.
Anyway, I've been riding him week after week and every time I'm on him my trainer says something about how much she likes me on him. He is okay on the flat but as soon as we start jumping, it goes downhill. He is so giant that he barely even jumps, he kind of just steps over it and I'm not used to that so I always go way far up into two point and then I'm unbalanced on the other side because I don't really even need to move hardly at all. Then, I'm leaning way forward and I resort to using my hands for balance, which compromises my steering, which is really bad because he drifts to the right when we are approaching the jump and my hands are busy keeping me balanced so I can't use the reins and my leg has to push him over but we never jump centered. Sometimes I even knock down the standards with my leg. I get frustrated and it's not really fair to him and it's not enjoyable for me.
So the real question is: Do you think I should ask my trainer if I can ride someone else even though she likes me to ride him a lot or should I just keep quiet because he's helping me become a better rider by forcing me to hold back and remain balanced?
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHow should I wrap these to test ride the saddle?
This might sound really stupid but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.
So I bought a saddle and I have to wrap the leathers when I test ride it. People keep saying socks but I don't understand. Wouldn't you have to cut the bottom of the sock to get it around? And couldn't the sock slip down and the leather could rub anyway? Pictures would be nice. I'm a very visual person.
And please don't say vet wrap or anything unless you can tell me exactly how to wrap them with it!

I can't give up the crab rangoon for my life. :)
3 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan1 decade agoHow do I convince my parents to let me buy this saddle?
I would really like to buy a saddle for myself because it would make it so much easier to find the correct position, get comfortable and always have my stirrups the same length. It takes up a lot of time in my lesson because I'm constantly adjusting my stirrups because I can never get them just right. Plus, with my own saddle, I can use it for shows and take it to school with me. I found a nice one in my price range and I would be paying for it myself. The trouble is, my mom is really hesitant to buy online since she had to pay shipping on two things she bought me for Christmas to ship back. Now she says I can buy one but not over the internet and there are only two tack shops even remotely close to my house and one is way pricey. When I ask my dad, he just says that it would be a waste of money because I can just use the one at my barn.
For those of you who are going to tell me not to buy it because I have to fit it on the horse first: I already know it will fit because it is the same as the one I use that belongs to the barn, except the barn's is really old and splitting at the seams, and I have to get there really early because everyone in my lesson tries to grab it.
It's not as if I just have money burning that I want to spend. I have been riding for almost 5 years (I got started late in the game) and don't plan to stop any time soon. I love going to the barn! I've given up the dream of them buying me a horse, I just want to buy my own saddle, I just need a credit card to do it.
How do I convince them that buying this saddle will be a good thing?
7 AnswersHorses1 decade agoIf I usually ride in a 16.5" saddle, could I use a16" one?
I found a really good saddle for less than $200 but it is a 16". I usually ride in a 16.5 (one that my barn owns) and I really like it but I'm wondering if it would make a big difference to go down sizes. If it helps, the old one is a collegiate and the new one just says hunter/jumper AP saddle. Also, I'm 16 so I don't think I'll be growing very much more. Should I get it or wait for something else to come along?
5 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat do you think about the quality of these videos?
Not the editing or creativity, obviously, but I'm wondering about peoples opinions on the two different cameras I haave now. The first sample is from the new camera, a cheap little polaroid I got for Christmas and the second is from my mom's cannon that shoots video as well. Does it bother you that the first one is so dark and that there is no zoom offered? Or are you more put off by the second camera, whcih makes blurrier picture but is mostly true to color and very light? I am wondering if I should return the new one. It didn't get very good reviews so I'm wondering what you guys think about the video quality.
1 AnswerCamcorders1 decade agoWhat do you think of these and do you think this sizing chart is wrong?
I read the reviews but I'm also wondering if anyone here has ever had experience with these boots.
http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=LA-385...
Also, I looked at the sizing chart and the heights go from 17 3/8 to 13 3/4 to 18... Do you think this is a mistake and the real measure should be 17 3/4?
1 AnswerHorses1 decade agoWhat can I do to make these boots fit?
I just got a new pair of riding boots, but I can't zip them all the way up. They fit up until my mid/top of the calf. I am kind of hesitant to do any exercising because I'm afraid that they will just become more muscular and larger. What should I do in order to fit into them?
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness1 decade agoWould x=2 be a horizontal or vertical line?
I always forget. If I have to graph this, would it be horizontal and y=2 would be vertical or the other way around?
4 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoWhere does the roman numeral in the name of metals with variable charges come from?
When something is named like Iron (II) Sulfate, where does the II come from? Every time someone in my class asks, my teacher just says, "Oh, well it's the charge." The charge of what? If it helps I think the original problem in our notes was FeSO4.
Also, if it's not a transition metal, do you have to use the roman numeral?
1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoWhat can I use to decorate this swim cap?
I'm decorating a swim cap as a joke for someone but I don't know what to use on it. I want some writing on it too. Should I just use permanent marker? I also want to put on some rhinestones or something. What kind of glue should I use? I need some materials that won't break off or wash away. I don't know what will work. Any suggestions? It's a silicone one if that matters...
2 AnswersSwimming & Diving1 decade agoWhich is better to wear for an interview?
The first one is a sleveless shirt with dark jeans and flip flops. Is this too underdressed? The second one is a sleveless shirt too but I have flats that would match it. But, it's like shiny. Is that too dressed up? Also, I am interviewing to be a lifeguard, if that influences your decision. And, the interview will be between me (a teenager) and an adult man so I don't want to make a wrong impression.
Here is a link, it's a video. I didn't know how else to put it up. Sorry about the bad quality.
13 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoWhat is an easy broadway song to sing?
I have to choose a broadway song (30 measures of one) to sing for an audition but I'm not a very good singer. What is a fairly easy song to sing?
5 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agoDoes anyone know of this video on the Oklahoma City Bombing and views on the death penalty for the bomber?
I saw a documentary a while ago about how the victims' families felt about the bomber being executed. There was one man who said that at first he wanted the bomber to die so that he would know what it was like for his daughter but then said that it didn't make her come back and it didn't make his sadness go away. That's the only part I really remember. I'm doing a research project and we need five different types of sources and I thought the video would be something different to have but I don't recall the name of it. Does anyone know?
Thanks!
1 AnswerMovies1 decade agoAnyone go to Centenary College? (read details!)?
I was looking at colleges and Centenary college looks good. I wanted to minor in equine science and have a major in either fine arts or education. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. I heard once that unless you major in equine, the school is kind of looked down upon and not many people are really there other than for the horses. Is that true? Also, I haven't been riding for very long (like 2ish years) so I was wondering if it's really hard to get in or if I do get in, will I have trouble following/ catching up?
*I put this in the horse category because I thought there would be a better chance of coming across a Centenary student here than in the school category so don't freak out about it. :)*
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhere do you get free horse video clips?
I know about jumpingvideo.com, paardentv.com, and prostallions.com but are there any others? It can be anything- movies, western, just horses, anything. I just want some new clips so I can make more videos. Thanks!
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHow do I make columns in Word without the standard toolbar(or how do I get the standard toolbar?)?
My toolbar has the basics- font size, color, highlight, bullets, alignment, etc. but not columns. I asked the little wizard guy and it said to click the column button on the standard toolbar but I guess that's not what I have. So, I asked him how to get it and I couldn't figure it out so I searched on the Microsoft website but I couldn't find it there either. So, how do I get the standard toolbar to show up or how can I put columns in my paper without having it? Thanks!
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhat were these boots called and where can I find them now?
I saw a pair of boots... probably last year... that looked almost exactly like horseback riding tall boots. I know they were at Target but I don't remember what they were called. I can't find them anywhere. Does anybody know what their name was or where I could get them now?
