  • Rat sterile due to age?

My male I intend to breed is about 18 months old. The female he is paired with is about 7 months old. I've had them housed together for a little over two months now and there have been no babies. I know for a fact they mated, I caught them in the act numerous times. Is it possible he is sterile due to his age?

  • horizontal hood piercing?

I have a horizontal hood piercing, it's been exactly a month today. Well I noticed that the skin is looking pretty thin around the piercing. Is this normal? I have researched online and haven't been able to find much. One blog type writing I found said that it seems to happen with women that have one labia larger than the other, because it causes the jewelry to turn and twist. Is there anything that can be done to save the piercing? Is it possible to have it redone as a vertical hood piercing? I am going to visit the piercer tomorrow morning but I wanted some information as soon as possible.

  • ick treatment for betta?

I have a male betta with ick. I have QuIck Cure (treatment for ick && protozoan parasites), Stress Zyme, Stress Coat, and aquarium salt. I have already treated today with the QuIck Cure, and both the Stress Zyme and Stress Coat state only to use in setting up new tanks or to use with water changes. Is the aquarium salt okay to use in an established tank? I am hoping the aquarium salt will boost his immune system to help fight off the infection, but do not want to over medicate him. Should I remove him from his main tank and set him up in a hospital tank? He is by himself in his tank, has an inch of gravel, and has a few plastic plants. Should I do anything to treat the tank itself or is the QuIck Cure going to be enough for both fish and tank treatment?

  • betas and guppies living together?

I was thinking about getting a 5 gallon tank and getting a few small colorful fish. I've only kept one beta in a bowl so this will be the first tank I've actually had. What I'd really like to have are betas and guppies. Would they be able to cohabitate? How many could I keep in a 5 gallon? Would it be better to get a female beta? Is it okay for them to eat the same food? And I know guppies need aquarium salt, would this hurt the beta? Do they need a heater to maintain a stable temp? Any other info would be helpful on keeping the two together and other fish suggestions are welcome.

  • beagle puppy is biting?

My three month old beagle puppy is extremely playful and seems to bite a lot. Sometimes she bites hard and doesn't want to let go. Is this normal for the breed? I've been using verbal corrections, yelped like a hurt litter mate, and I've been giving her chew toys. Is there anything else I can do to correct her? Also, how much should she weigh at this age?

  • Hairless rat questions?

I just got a hairless rat yesterday afternoon and I have a few questions.

I have a skin cleanser called Cetaphil. It's basically like Phisoderm, the stuff you give babies a "bath" with when they still have their umbilical cord stump and can't get regular baths. Is that okay to use for him?

Could I use a skin moisturizer for him? I have Aveeno Baby Lotion and some regular baby lotions (one is lavender scented).

I understand that they have problems staying warm with little or no hair. He has a furred buddy in the cage with him. I have little plastic houses, a timothy hay house, and a small cardboard box. They are all stuffed with tissues. Is this enough to keep him warm or would I still need a heating pad? Would it be necessary during the summer?

Also what are some good treats that contain protein? I read that they need extra protein to keep up their metabolism since it's higher than a normal rat's. I have Nutro Max Healthy Desserts, Dingo Baked Bones (Banana flavored), and Yogies.
