  • I there an Excel function to read a formula?

Let's say I have this in cell A1:

    =X30+100

Is there a worksheet function in Excel that will show me that formula, and (ideally) display it as a string?

e.g. in cell B1 I'd like to have a function that says =WhateverFunction(A1), and it will show "=X30+100" as the resulting value.

  • Why doesn't a 3-prong Outdoor GFI outlet work?

I have an outdoor GFI outlet where:

    - I can plug a 2-prong outlet into it

    - When I try to plug a 3-prong outlet into it, the Reset button pops out

Why does this happen, and what needs to be done to fix it?

  • If a fan goes to the Swan and Dolphin for baseball's winter meetings, what is there to see?

I assume it's just whatever baseball team staff or media are milling around the lobby or hallways. Is that about right?

  • Is it possible to convert a dry-laid, irregular flagstone patio, to wet-laid?

Ideally I would like to take off the stones, pour on the cement, and then re-lay the flagstones.

    Is this feasible?

What other significant steps am I missing?

I'm a little handy (I put in a dry-laid paver patio at a previous house).

    Thanks for your help.

  • Dog and patches of taller grass?

I have a dog, and while there may one 1 or 2 small brown spots in my lawn, what I have a lot of is patches where the grass grows much faster. Can this be caused by the dog (by changing the soil composition in those spots, for example), and is there any way to correct it?

  • In Excel pivot table, is it possible to have the table repeat the item that is being summarized on every row?

So let's say I have this:

    Month____Acct_____Sales

    Jan..........1234.........5000

    Jan..........1234.........2000

    Jan..........6789.........1000

    Jan..........6789.........3000

If I do a pivot table with Month as the 1st column and Acct as the second column, can I get Excel to display it like this?

    Month__Acct___Sales

    Jan.......1234.......7000

    Jan.......6789.......4000

What I get instead is this (i.e. without the second "Jan"):

    Month__Acct___Sales

    Jan.......1234.......7000

    ............6789.......4000

    I have Excel 2002.

  • Impact of solar panels on resale value in Pennsylvania.?

We live in PA and are considering a couple of solar options -- either a 3-panel hot water system, or a full solar system. How would these impact our home's resale value? It's a 4,000 sq ft home in a 7-year old development.

  • In Excel 2002, what could cause a file to triple in size with only minor changes?

Recently a file I was working on, with multiple sheets modeling revenue and expenses for a business unit, increased from 15Mb to 44Mb for no apparent reason. I didn't add any pivot tables, and didn't add VLOOKUPS or external links.

The most significant change I made was to add two rows performing calculations on data on that same sheet.

Any ideas on what types of things might cause this?

    Thanks

  • Experience with Polymerized Sand?

Does anyone have experience with poly sand? I tried it once years ago and it didn't last, but I only went down less than 1 inch, and maybe that wasn't enough.

Any thoughts on the best way to guarantee success? The area is a walking path with dry-laid irregular flagstones.

    Thanks

  • What is the syntax for detailed searches in Yahoo Answers (including sorting by date, for example)?

For example, how do I specify when doing an advanced search that I want to see only open question which contain a certian keyword, and sort them most recent to oldest? And can I limit the search to those questions with <2 answers?

    Thanks

  • Best way to Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park from western suburbs?

What is the best way to get from Philadelphia's western suburbs (King of Prussia area) to Citizens Bank Park for a night game? Is there a way to do it without spending a lot of time sitting in traffic? Is it better to travel from 6 to 7 and arrive just in time, or will traffic still be heavy then?

    Thanks

  • How to convert a dry-laid flagstone patio to wet-laid?

I have a patio which was dry-laid with irregular flagstones. I am not really happy with the look, or the maintenance required, as I get weeds between the stones.

Is it feasible to convert this to wet-laid without ripping up the whole thing? In other words, can I do it in sections, by picking up a few stones, putting down cement, replacing the stones in the same pattern as before, and then moving on to a new section?

    Thanks

  • Custom Formatting of numbers - Excel 2003?

I have formulas that compare this year's results to Budget and Prior Year. There are cases where I get results such as 15300% or -8500%, because the numbers are so different. I want to show anything that is over 1000% or less than -1000%, as M+ or M-. I could do this with a long IF statement right in the cell, however this file goes out to other users and I would rather keep the formulas simple. I have seen a way (and I've even done it, but can't find it now), where in Format-Cells, you can set up a custom format that says in effect:

    if it's >=10, show "M+"

    if it's <=-10 show "M-"

    otherwise show "0%" or whatever

Has anybody else seen this and can help with the exact syntax to use?

    Thanks

  • In Excel, is there a worksheet function to determine whether a cell contains a formula?

I want to take an action depending on whether cell D7 contains a formula or a constant value. I know I can set up a user-defined function that will do this, but is there a way to check this without setting up a UDF? I have Excel 2002.

    Thanks

  • How do I make sure my finished basement stays dry?

I have a sump pump with a battery backup. However during one overnight period recently, the sump pump died, the battery backup worked for a few hours and then it died, and by the following day the basement was flooded. The battery backup was beeping but we didn't hear it upstairs. Short of digging a second well for another sump pump, what can I do to really minimize the chance this happens again?
