  • How to deal with runaways and twens?

My best friend's brother got kicked out of the house because he dropped out of school, worked at a menial job, smoked a lot of pot, and did nothing with his life. He spent 6 months or so with his friends at an apartment, but he ran out of money and wanted to come back home. So his father agreed to take him back, if he follows the conditions: no more pot, go to school and get a damn degree, and go to church every Sunday. Basically, he was in house arrest. But the problem now is that he has started to sneak out of the house (maybe not to smoke because his father tests him every month), but because he's bored and a kid in his early twens cannot stay in house arrest...it's hugely affecting my best friend, because she's freaking out and wants to keep her family together, but doesn't know how. So is there any real advice I can give her, or to her brother, or to her father? I need concrete guidelines on how to approach this, because my best friend is hurting when she really doesn't need to...it's not her problem, and it's sad.

  • What do people want more? To fit in or to be different?

What do people want more? To fit in or to be different?

I would love to hear different opinions from different people about this...

    A friend's answer:

"i think in general people worry about fitting in so they act differently to fit in"

  • What's the psychology behind putting on a shirt?

Hahah, ok I know this is weird. But what if something as simple as putting on a shirt gives some kind of headway about your behavior.

    For example:

*If you put your hands in [the sleeves] before your head...you leap into actions before thinking about them.

*If you put your head in before your hands...you plan things and think about them and then take action.

This reminds me of that shoe and shoelace theory..something about which shoe you put on first...and how you tie your shoelaces...

I don't consider these trivial things to be accurate (obviously)...but it's a cool thing to figure out...

    What do you guys think?

  • What's the difference between jam and jelly?

This is the only thing I know about them:

    * One you can spread out more evenly...and one looks like jello.

*Jam is what people in the olden ages used.

    *Apricot, Strawberry jam.........Grape jelly.....

Anybody have any good thoughts about jam and jelly?

  • What does it mean when you dream about total strangers?

I've dreamt about people that I've never seen before. Does that mean these people are meant to be met in the future...or have I already met them in my past life or whatever? I would go to a dream interpreter but 1) where in the world would I go to find such a person 2) half of the dreams I forget about when I wake up and 3) what? a dream interpreter?

Anybody else got the same dilemma?

  • What do you do when you're retired?

I mean think about it. All your life, you're going to school to go to college...you're going to college to go to a career...and you're working your freaking entire life...then suddenly you just stop. You have nothing else to do for the remainder of your life. It's like you're waiting for the next step of your life - death. Sorry to say it that way, but it's true...

Yeah, I guess you can pick up hobbies and help out in charities and such...but that does get old (no pun intended)...

And it's kinda scary, right? Straight up, I'm afraid to retire, one of my worst fears...especially for a person like me who can't sit still.

  • Same Sex marriages approved in California!!!!!?

A long time ago, the Constitution said slaves get 1/5 of a vote. Our ancestors remember equality for women. Our parents/us remember equality for blacks. Our society and generation today deals with sexual orientation. Isn't it funny how no matter what generation you are, you're always fighting battles for equality throughout history. Can't you guys imagine a really really revised Constitution in the future? And especially when we find life in other planets, and different worlds in other galaxies...damn it just never stops...it's unbelievable.

I am so proud of the California Supreme Court. We made history today.

  • I don't understand why the U.S. helped BOTH Iraq AND Iran during the First Gulf War?

Most of Iran's military equipment (aircrafts) and arsenal was American-made.

And even though Iraq's equipment came from the Soviet Union, the US still sold Iraq $200 million worth of helicopters...

But it's not just the US, many countries supported both Iraq and Iran. Why is that? Was the Iraq-Iran War an amusing game of ping pong for the rest of the world? It's a question about life and death, especially of the civilians and especially when Saddam introduced chemical warfare in the '88 war...

  • What's the difference between religion and spirituality?

I mean I get that you don't want to have to do anything with a specific religion, but what does "being spiritual" mean? I've heard of spirit guides, and my guess is that you have to be whole and clean with yourself, you need to have faith and morals in yourself (as opposed to having faith and specific morals in a sect).

  • So what's the story behind Deja Vu?

I'm not talking about the movie, I'm talking about the creepy feeling I get when I can visualize every single detail of what I am going to do next...which lasts from 1-10 sec....it's the craziest thing the human mind can do...so anybody have any theories or answers about why Deja Vu is the way it is?

  • What do you guys think about the Real ID act?

I think it's useless. Waste of taxpayers' money, and I'm kind of offended that I have to hold up a card to show I am an American. It reminds me of concentration camps...remember how the Jews had to wear Stars of Davids? Also...if we can counerfeit money...who's to say we can't duplicate these cards as well?

  • Does the Harry Potter movie series distort J.K. Rowling's own version of Harry Potter?

Like the rumors of Hermione and Ron..or even how Harry Potter looks like...do you guys think Rowling just moved with the media's perception of "Harry Potter"? I remembered that when the first book came out, "The Sorceror's Stone," the cover had a boy on a broom. Then, when the movie came out, all her book covers seem to resemble Daniel Radcliffe instead of the first boy on the first book cover...I don't know...what if Harry Potter wasn't made into a movie? Do you think we'll still feel the same about these characters?
