Is it legal for an employer to force you to skip a college class?
I have one year remaining before completing my Bachelor's Degree. Beginning in August, I will begin my next to last semester, and my office will lose one full time staff person. We are a busy public office that is open until 9PM four days a week. If by some chance one of my coworkers is sick or has an emergency, and the other coworker cannot work until 9PM that would only leave me. However, I have two evening classes in beginning in August which I do not want to skip unless it is necessary because I am ill or have an emergency.
Does my employer have any legal ground to force me to skip my classes in order to work until our office closes? Please provide legal code if you can.
Much appreciated!
3 AnswersLaw & Legal1 decade agoWhat to do about issues at work?
My former coworker has been my boss now for about a year. She constantly makes comments about my personal health issues and in October after a friend died she berated me the day after I attended his funeral for being a half hour late to work. We open at 8:30 and I get in at 8, That day I called and said I would be late and got in at 8;35. Well, to make a long story short--another coworkers birthday is this Friday and she's taking the day off. I've been in a lawsuit for the past year for a fender bender I had 2 years ago. I just found out this afternoon that I have to give my deposition on Friday morning. We have a small office with only 4 full time people including my boss. With myself and the other girl off on Friday that would leave one coworker by herself on a very busy day. My boss may not be available to help cover the front desk area with this other coworker. I'm afraid my boss is going to give me grief tomorrow about the deposition, but she's know about this coming since before Thanksgiving. My attorney told me the deposition would probably be around the 20th of december. I'm also planning to take the day off so I don't feel rushed through deposition. I told the coworker that will be here Friday that I was planning that and she could hardly look at me. And then just keep giving me these little straight lipped smiles saying okay, uh huh. I can't stand this. I feel like everyone is going to be upset.

2 AnswersLaw & Legal1 decade agoDo you think the vampires in the Twilight series have fangs? Spoiler warning?
I am going to very disappointed if they don't. In I believe Eclipse Jacob and Bella are having a conversation about how she kisses Edward with fangs. Bella says that Edward does not have fangs. Then I'm watching the trailer and the bite mark on Bella's arm from James looks like a full row of teeth not too tiny puncture wounds. What's everyone's take on this?

I work with someone that has been separated for a year and in that time has had an affair with a married man and is now dating someone else. She constantly says she's tired and she even leaves early sometimes because she's tired. I'm going through my own issues and hearing hers just make me extremely aggitated. I feel like she's made her bed. She left her husband. I don't know what to do. I'm so frustrated. If I even start to talk about my problems which I have some serious ones, she clams up or switches to her issues.

When a body is completely decomposed and authorities only have dental records to determine identity where do they get the dental records? Are dental records submitted to some type of national database? How do authorities know which dentist you go to say if they find your body in North Dakota and you live in Utah? What if there are no dental records available to determine your identity? Then what?
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoDo you have to take a car that is under warranty to the dealer for oil changes and other maintenance?
I have had my 2006 Hyundai Sonata for almost 2 years. It is still under warranty. I just spent $230 this weekend for a 15,000 mile checkup, new wiper blades and a new cabin filter. This is so ridiculous. If I take my car somewhere else for oil changes and the like, will that void my warranty or do I have to take it to the dealer? I'm afraid to ask the dealer because I'm not sure I would get an honest answer.

My coworker who I will call "G" just told another coworker who I will call "C" that he was in love with her. This is making for a very awkward working environment. G knows that there could never be a relationship with C, but now G is acting very moody. I'm friends with both of them, but what can I do to help G heal his broken heart.

Not in general, just today!! I work in higher education and people are calling and getting snippy and professors are coming in dropping stuff on my desk.
12 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoWhat's the best way to deal with a micromanager?
My new boss, and I use the term loosely, will not keep her hands off of my stuff. Everytime she stands at my desk to tell me something, she ask to pick up a piece of paper I have sitting in my inbox and look at it, ask me what something means I have written on a post-it note, flip my calendar around to face her so she can read it better. Before she became "the acting supervisor" she used to stand behind and read websites and my email over my shoulder. It is getting on my last nerve.
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoWhy do I gag so much?
I've been gagging quite a bit lately. I've been to the doctor twice and he's but me on antibiotic and zyrtec-D for sinus infection. Has anyone ever had a sinus infection that has caused them to gag? Does anyone know of any other medical conditions that gagging might be a symptom of? I've had 2 episodes of throwing up from the gagging but I'm not nauseous. It scares me when the gagging starts. I don't know if it's anxiety or just sinus drainage going down my throat.
5 AnswersRespiratory Diseases1 decade agoAnxiety at and about work??
I have an anxiety disorder and there are lots of changes at work. My boss retired and one of my peers has taken her place as acting director. One girl continuously talks about finding another job, her looks, men flirting with her and other annoying things. Another coworker is talking about leaving in December and yet another one is planning to retire in March. Another of my coworkers has already left to have a baby and she probably won't be returning.
Through all of these changes my job has stayed the same, but all of these external things are making my anxiety worse. I don't want to come to work and when I'm here I don't want to be here. I like what I do don't get me wrong about that, but I don't know how to handle all of the anxiety. I cry just about every morning and I don't want to leave home. I'm absolutely miserable. Any suggestions?? Anyone been through this? What do you do when your coworkers drive you nuts?
7 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoHow do you handle anxiety at work?
I'm at work--technically by myself. There's another coworker here but she works in a cube in another room. I'm on the frontline and I just feel really anxious today. I feel trapped like I can't get up when I need too. When there are other coworkers here, I feel that I can get up and walk around when I want. The coworker that is here right now comes and goes when she wants to--to the bathroom, to get water, whatever. There's a lot of crap going on at work and I just feel anxious. As soon as some of my other coworkers get here, I'll feel better but that isn't for another 3 hours.
5 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoMy boss is retiring--now what?
My current boss is retiring at the end of September. I'm getting bits and pieces of info from people about the way things will be when she retires. I talked to my boss yesterday about my role after she retires and she really couldn't give me a straight answer. She basically said she was making reccomendations to her boss and he trusts those. The clincher is one of my coworkers that I'm not particularly fond of may be applying for my boss's position. I am up in arms about this. I don't know what to do. I also don't know if I should switch majors in college as I'm transferring this fall. I'm currently set for English which would help in my current job, but I'm interested in psychology and education. I can't apply for my boss's job because I don't have a four year degree. So it wouldn't do me any good to waste time with an English degree because it's going to take me awhile to get it and by then someone will have filled my boss's position. Help!!!!
