  • Is there any way to get Word on my computer for free?

I have already used up my free trial time and my netbook does not come with a CD drive ...

I need Word asap because I'm trying to compose resumes.

  • External hard drive crash? What to do?

I dropped my external hard drive yesterday - it wasn't a bad fall. But the problem is, no matter what I've tried, I can't access my files anymore - I'm worried I've lost everything. I had lots of school files and thousands of pictures on there.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you have any ideas as to how I might rescue them?

    I'd appreciate any ideas.

  • Does anyone know of any bridal SHOE stores in Los Angeles? (Or the surrounding area?)?

I'm the Maid of Honour for a bride who's having difficulty finding and ivory (or pale gold) stiletto sandal.

We've looked in ALL the obvious places (Bloomingdale's, SAKS, Neiman Marcus, Macy's, JC Penny, Target, and even all the smaller boutiques in the major malls.)

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a specific shoe/accessory store for brides, or, at least, of any stores with a good variety.

I'd appreciate any pointers you may have.

    Thanks!

  • Does anyone know the works of Anais Nin?

I've recently developed an interest in her work --not her novels as much as her diaries. But there are so many! I suppose I should begin with her most earlier diaries, but does anyone else have any other ideas? If you know her work well, what would you recommend? Is there any one work I should start with?

  • Stanford, UCLA, and Northridge?

I'm thinking of moving to California and would like to apply to these universities. If anyone can provide any information on the three (or one of the three) I'd be very grateful. I've already checked out the websites, and would like REAL people's opinions.

What I'm looking for is information on:

-rank (in terms of quality and reputation)

-quality of instruction (ie., are most of the profs preoccupied with their own research to be good profs?)

    -size

-overall "feel" (ie., campus, students, etc.)

It might help to mention that I'm double-majoring in english and philosophy.

I should also mention that I'm not a high school student - I'm just transferring from one university to another.

The other question I want to ask is (that also ties in with rank): how difficult is it to be accepted to each university? On their websites they do mention that competition is stiff ...

  • Existential Psychology Books/Articles?

    Hi,

I'm looking for some introctory, insightful readings in existential psychology.

I know that Rollo May, Viktor Frankl, and Eric Frohmm are some of the main theorists in the area, but I'm looking for specific works that encompass the main ideas -- and, hopefully, something not too long (I'm writing a research paper and don't have a lot of time.)

    Thanks.

  • Vitamin question?

I just bought several different vitamins:

    -Vitamin C

    -Vitamin D 3

    -A multi-vitamin

    -Fish oil gels capsuls

My question is: Can I take all of them at once? (Ie., after dinner), or is it better to take some in the morning, and others in the evening?

    (And, if so, which ones?)

Also, I'm taking these fish oil capsuls for the first time: do they make your mouth smell like fish? Hmm ....

    Thanks!!

  • In which works does Sartre discuss the concept of "the gaze"?

I'd like to do a bit of research on this idea, and I'm trying to narrow down the most pertinent works.

    Thanks!

  • Does anyone know how I can find out what a grade on an eye exam means?

I just had an eye exam, and I forgot to ask the doctor what my grade meant (I do need glasses - I think the grade was 1.50 ... I don't know what this means in terms of severity). There's a section that says: PD (DIST): 59 ... I don't know what this means either.

I've been looking online for sites that might expalin this, but I haven't found any.

  • Why do you read and what, specifically, do you get out of it?

I'm looking for thoughtful answers here, guys. I'd like to see answers that consider why the act of reading is meaningful - you can mention specific genres if you'd like. Why do you ENJOY reading, and how do you think it makes you better? In what ways?

    As always, thank you all.

  • What does W. Vancouver offer, that is truly unique? - a "must see."?

I've been living downtown, vancouver for a year now, but have never been to W. Vancouver. Is there anything that I absolutely must do there? Any specific attractions? Restaurants? Anything?

  • What are the coolest things to do in Vancouver with tourists?

I have out of town guests coming to visit me in June, and I have a few things in mind, like some of my favorite restaurants, bars/lounges, the beach, some gardens, the art gallery, granville island, grouse mountain etc.

But I want to do things that are not too "touristy." I want to show them a good time, while basically doing what I normally do - but I really don't live any kind of "high life."

So, any ideas of what might be fun and unique for out of towners? Any thing that I, MYSELF absolutely have to explore?

I appreciate any answers I get, but double the points for the most creative ones!

  • Exactly how powerful is beauty?

Do you find yourselves hynotized to the point that you lose sight of all rationality?

Guys: What might you do for a beautiful woman? And what do you suspect your limits might be?

Women: How intimidated are you by other beautiful women? And how preoccupied would you say you are with your own "beauty" - however you might define it?

  • If you had the chance to interview anyone you wanted, for twenty minutes, who who he/she be? Why this person?

Please think carefully about this. If you consider what your most burning, nagging questions are, your answer may better reflect what it is you truly want to find out (and from whom).
