  • Bleach stains and where in the heck they are coming from!!!!?

I just moved in with some friends who bought a new home and all new appliances. I am terrible with cleaning with bleach (meaning I use it in the washer on all whites - rags, pillowcases and white sheets, socks, etc).

I did a load of whites, which means I followed the directions, and poured the bleach in the bleach cup built into the washer. The kick is, after doing that load of whites and using the appropriate bleach and the cup, I went and washed two loads of all my & my man's blacks.

We only wear black, all the time, everywhere. I had no issue, even tho I thought, hmmmm, should I run and empty load just to ensure all the bleach was out of the machine. In my ADD/ADHD mode, I forgot and threw our blacks in after the bleach load.

    NO PROBLEMS.

My housemate had to work all week and weekend so I did two loads of her mixed colors (we only use cold water to wash with here). The problem is I came home the other day to her showing me a cotton long sleeve t that had 4 drops on the sleeve of her pink shirt. (actual drops, not smears, runs, no other fading).

I apparently washed her son's jacket and the same thing happened. This time it was smears, but again, I had washed two loads of blacks 2 days prior to her loads of laundry.

What the heck? Is it possible the bleach hung in the bleach cup of the washer and did this damage and I owe her shirt and a coat for her son. The pink t looks to be that maybe she got bleach on it. The damage is only in 4 spots, but bleached completely white and she did clean with Clorox Spray while wearing it (we think), but the smear of bleach down the coat sleeve is driving us crazy.

The machine is still under warranty and if this is something caused by the machine we'd like to replace it. If it is just my bleaching too often, then I will quit. Heck, as far as I'm concerned, I'm never using bleach in this house again!!!!!! :)

Anyone with any guesses, info, any help ----- please help me before I'm booted out of this lovely new home she has so generously shared with me until I can get my disability thru. HELP!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

  • a marble candle holder?

About 30 years ago a friend gave me a home made gift. It was marbles, red and clear, that she put in the oven at 200 to 350 degrees and left them there until just the insides cracked. Then she put 3 red, 3 clear, notching one over each row to make a candy cane effect.

Well now I'm trying to remember the details. This is not a candle holder per se. It is something sat around a candle and the light reflects beautifully thru the cracked marbles.

Has anyone heard of this? If so can you tell me the temperature and the best kind of marbles to use. This is important as we are giving home made gifts ONLY this year.

Also, do they still make "air ferns" and where could I get some. My other gift was an "air fern" set in a sand art creation. I know sand art kits are easily gotten & Michael's and Hobby Lobby, but the air ferns? Or was that just a mid70's kick?

  • Starting a fruit/vegetable diet, help?

Our health has reached the point where the only foods palatable r fruits & veggies. The only meats we eat (& these r only eaten 1x week) r fish & chick, which is all I know how to cook!

I abhor the taste of tofu, so this is going to be hard. If anyone out there can help me find a way 2 a quality diet using mainly fruit & veggies, I would be sincerely grateful.

We r both very ill from Hep C, RA, and cluster headaches, which I firmly believe can be helped by a healthy/healthier diet. We r way 2 young 4 the weight of this disease, but we did the risky behaviour. I need to find some way 2 ensure we r getting nutrients we need. As I said, any "beginners" help, references (r there any "vegetarian for dummies" books???, sites would be greatly appreciated. Peace, KC

  • Help - I need a good/comfortable pair of shoes for work?

I've been an office worker most of my life & now find myself picking & packing.

Not only am I on my dawgs (feet) for 10 hrs/day, but its the 1st time in ages that I've had to climb shelves, climb racks, lift & carry heavy boxes, etc.

By the time I get home, the dawgs are barkin loud :). I wear Harley boots which have been so comfortable - but not for this job! They aren't great for the bottoms of my feet, which hurt so bad they burn. And the next morning - Owww!

Anyone with suggestions for sturdy, comfortable work shoes, that are kinda punkish or even tennis shoes (I'm that desperate!), Please, please help me. Thanks

  • Is there any way that Yahoo can delete a "deleted question"?

Before we take the time and effort, and in some cases, our heartfelt feelings into answering a question, submit it, then get the notice the question was deleted is frustrating. Can these questions be deleted from the Yahoo board before hand!

  • My husband has end stage liver disease?

He is starting to grow blood blisters in packs - which break open at odd times. No worries for my health as we shared needles for years before getting clean and I have it too, just no symptoms other than being tired more often than my hyperactive self has ever allowed me to be.

He is also getting these things that look like brush burns or scrapes that get really big, infected, then heal with a gigantic scab.

We live in a small town now - in middle of no-wheres-ville with no doctors of any more intellect than we have as being and working with addicts.

I say - since his pain is getting bad, let's go back to our big city and kick out the jams and go out on our time line - meaning suicide.

He is lost. One minute he wants to die before things get worse and the next he doesn't --- he thinks there is hope, but from what I've seen and heard its a no go. Of course, I know its my addiction and pain of living in this world that has had me chasing the big sleep since I was five years old, but he has always been strong and is a christian and always has been - and he has many fears of what is waiting for him after death. No matter how much I try to reason, one cannot reason with faith.

Please, if someone can give me some help or ideas - watching and listening to him suffer is not cool. I know if I just get in the car and go, he will follow, but . . .

  • How to keep ice from forming on my car's windshield?

I live in North CO, and every morning its a fight to get the ice off our car's windows. I notice my neighbor who has a van NEVER has ice form on her vehicle. Even if it's 2 degrees and 93% humidity, her van has no ice.

In the past, I've tried to approach her with extra stuff from our garden, etc. and she is not nice - doesn't want to be involved or speak to anyone in the 'hood, unless its to complain about something.

While the rest of the neighborhood is out with vehicles running, defrosters on high, freezing our butts off while trying to scrape that HARD ice away, her vehicle is ice free - ALWAYS. Any idea how she does this? She has an older Honda van if that's any help.

Please, please, please help. My husband is very very ill and sometimes we have to race to the hospital while I do my best to drive looking out thru a slit of clear window just to get him help. I know this is extremely dangerous to bike riders, pedestrians, critters, etc., but many times its a race to get him help fast.

Thanks to all you amazing people who are always there with good suggestions and help. Oh, and she might be a witch - but its more a "b" minus the "w", so . . . .

  • I know milk is not good for my cat, but what about other dairy products?

My husband gives our cat, Taz, shredded cheese or a couple Tbsp. of whole cow milk, several times a day.

Taz has turned into quite the little beggar now, but that is our fault. He is from a long line of farm cats & like his mom and uncle, LARGE & super fluffy.

Taz just turned 3 and his regular diet is dry food specifically for fur balls, since he is so fluffy. We change flavors with each bag so he doesn't get bored.

What began as a reward for positive behavior, has gotten out of control & I worry about Taz' health (and my husbands if he doesn't quit this).

Taz is "fixed". When we groom him daily, we make sure to feel his legs and back and belly, etc, since Taz spends most of his days outside & tends to get into scrapes. Taz doesn't seem to be carrying fat. When he's wet, Taz looks like a normal size cat - with his fur flat, he appears to lose 8 -10 lbs!

I know the rule of thumb is "NO HUMAN FOOD".

What say you, cat lovers? I will take the wisdom of the community as THE word. Since both my husband & I are unemployed, no one gets to the vet or doctors (other than Taz for his shots, since he is an outdoor cat).

All thanks to you cat owners who know and all blessings to your precious kitties for their safety!

  • suicide - good idea or continue with pain?

I am extremely ill and no hope is offered. I have tried to end my life starting at 5 years old. I never felt I fit in in this world and have lived in mental and physical pain for way too long. There has been no help from the many, many etc, psych meds I've taken or doctors I've been to. People think I'm a freak (I'm not a kid - I'm 52) - if anyone is seriously in pain and looking for it to end, please respond. No smart as**s please. This is serious.

  • Traveling with a 2 year old "fixed" 20lb male cat.?

My husband, who is disabled and I (and our cat) are leaving in 2 weeks to make a 1700 mile trip by car. I have obtained a big travel container for our cat who is 2 1/2 yrs old, neutered and weighs about 20lbs. As he is mortified to ride even to the vet - shed and howls like crazy when we put him in the car - does anyone have any suggestions as to tranquilizing the cat.

I CANNOT AFFORD TO TAKE THE CAT TO THE VET SO PLEASE DON'T SUGGEST THAT - my husbands care has decimated our savings and we are moving closer to family.

My husband gets codeine and Klonapin (mild tranq). Is it possible to give the cat a small piece of the tranq? Say 2.5 mgs?

He is used to running free - has a cat door/window - and is not used to being contained. This drive is going to be a b**ch as it is, so any help will be most appreciated.

  • Employment in The Triangle area of North Carolina?

My husband and I are considering moving back east to where I have family and friends. 11 years ago, we left Maryland to try our luck in the west. Now my husband is very ill - and will not get better without an organ transplant. I have family about an hour or so outside the Raleigh Durham (Triangle) area, but am concerned about taking the end of our saving to make a move to an area where there is no work for me to support us. I have vast experience in everything from legal admin asst, data entry, etc, all the way to the opposite end where I have done cleaning, production, quality assurance, bindery work, plastics, and much more (all temp assignments worked while attending school here in Colorado). I'm hoping someone who lives in the Triangle area can give me advise about the work situation there in the Triangle. I live in a smaller college town about an hour north of Denver now, and finding work here has become almost impossible. Yes, there are some minimum wage jobs here, but that does not provide for even our extremely basic living expenses. I have not had a single job in over a month now - and I call all the agencies daily hoping something will come through. I know my husband will have a better chance at receiving the health care he needs in NC, but I don't want to drag him all that way, 1600 miles, to be in the same position we are in now. If anyone has experience with finding work in The Triangle of North Carolina and has anything positive to say about my chances of finding steady work - even through temp agencies, please help. This is an urgent situation. I do not have the best "background" so gaining work in one of the Universities will be impossible due to my past life. But I have had no legal issues in 13 years. Any hope out there?

  • Does anyone have a cure for male "shy bladder syndrome"?

I have a friend who is required to leave observed urines for u/a testing. He is unable to leave an observed specimen, EVER. His urine are clean - that's not the problem. This has resulted in catheterization due to the length of time he's held his urine in order to drop the specimen - then not been able to go at all. He's tried hypnotherapy - he's tried medication - to no avail. Serious replies only please. We've heard from several acquaintances with the same issue, so the help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Do Western Oil gas stations really sell gas from sources and refineries in the United States?

I have been told by many friends to buy my gasoline from Western brand gas stations. They tell me that the gasoline sold there is produced and refined in the U.S., and by purchasing that brand of gasoline, I am not supporting Middle East oil. Does anyone know if this is true?

I've noticed that their prices are lower than at other stations, by at least 10 to 14 cents per gallon.

  • What's the difference in a "religion" & a "cult"? I know this question has been posed before, but . . .

I found the following definition in Answers, and copied it below:

"Laird Rice's definition of a cult is that it, 1) uses deception to attract/keep members, and 2) actively engages in hiding, denying, obscuring factual information that is damaging to their history/theology."

To me, this seems to be an issue of every religion. I'd love to hear your opinions/arguments on this.

Are all religions nothing more than cults, up until the point they are deemed socially acceptable?

At the moment, this is the only difference I find. Please educate me :)!

Are you on methadone? Tired of paying as much to be in "treatment" as you did on the streets? Tired of counselors who say "I can't help you with that, my hands are tied?" Tired of the private clinic owners making tons of money off the suffering of others? Lets unite to stop this absurd practice of getting rich off someone's illness. Stop them from making absurd rules and knowing we won't unite to do anything about it!

Please if you are in "methadone treament" and have had enough, get in touch with me and lets try to change the pattern of the way we are treated!

  • Does anyone know how to remove debt covered in bankruptcy from a credit report?

After I filed bankruptcy, an woman I used to work with told me she went to a seminar about rebuilding credit after bankruptcy.

She was told you should hire a lawyer to clear off all the debt that bankruptcy cancelled, from your credit record.

Every site I've checked says it can't be done.

Has anyone done this, and if so, how did you do it?
