I have very definite opinions on parenting that I believe to be extremely practical. I would like you're opinions, but I would also like for you to consider them before you react.
Todays young adults seem to need more coddled that my generation. I work in HR, and I see so many young adults, fresh out of college, expecting much more money than they should. After they get a job, they complain the work is too hard or too much for what they're being paid. They also require much more training than older people and seem to expect praise for their work and are stunned when you tell them they did something wrong.
Now, I know that I am expected to do my job, and I think it's completely impractical to expect your children to grow up to be responsible if for their first 18 years, there were no consequences for their action; there have been no responsibilities, were given everything they asked for, had excuses made for them for bad grades, given medication because they couldn't behave (not..
7 AnswersParenting1 decade agoWhat should I do about my future in-laws??
I am getting married in February to man that I've been with for almost six years. We are extremely happy. The problem is that my fiance came to me the other day and told me that his mother doesn't like me.
Well, according to his sister, I told her that she needs to move out of her parents' backyard and take her jobless mooching boyfriend with her. I didn't say that. I may have been thinking it very loudly but didn't say it, but that's not the problem.
It the earlier years of our relationship, my fiance and I had problems. At the time, he had a bad habit of telling his mother everything. He finallly realized this was a bad thing, but all the issues that she was told about she still holds against me.
His sister, who lived in my house for a while, is constantly stirring the fire. She is a 25 year old woman who lives in her parents' house, doesn't have a job, and has moved her boyfriend of 4 months in the house. She constantly asks them for money, and she is a drug addict.
9 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoMom and Step Dad versus Dad and Step Mom??
My step son's grades came out last week, and they were horrible. He's in the gifted program at school, and there wasn't an "A" in all his grades. His dad and I both feel that academics are more important than socializing, video games and pretty much anything else, but we were both honor students in school.
Now, his mother, who happens to be a teacher, continues to make excuses for him by saying that it's the teacher's fault. Step dad agrees with us, by the way. We took his Nintendo DS, which we paid for, away from him and said that until we saw improvement, he would have no games, no friends over, and limited television on the weekends. She is livid. She yelled and screamed that we were stupid and that she knows that it's the teacher's fault.
Step dad told me in confidence that he thinks she is wrong and has tried to convince her, but she will not budge.
Up until now, we have been in agreement, but this we don't knwo how to solve because she refuses to compromise. Help.

A young lady was escorted off a plane because her skirt was too short. Atlanta discussing a law that would make it illegal to have pants that are so baggy they show underwear.
How is it in the "free" country, states and municipalities can issue law related to how we dress?

I would like to get married in the United States, but I absolutely do not want to get married on a beach. Also, we're not big on the pink and lace, country thing, so B & B's are pretty much out too. It might seem a bit picky, but I just can't decide.
